    hi folks,
My BSNL connection is Plan 500, which i use to surf through my desktop, and while connecting my laptop i need to pull the RJ connector and plug into laptop each time, now i plan to pick up a new modem, as my modem provided by Bsnl stopped working, so i would like to know from u all techies is ther any modem by which i can connect my laptop by wireless mode (calling it -->wifi, i dont know whether its the right term to use) what i intend to have is

    1) a modem which can connect to my desktop by RJ connector ( to connect the LAN)

    2) Also i can connect my Laptop by wireless mode within limits of home.

there are plenty of options available, you will require one Wireless ADSL modem cum router, sine your current modem is not working.

you can go for linksys, Netgear, Belkin, D-link which ever you like.

Or you can get one Wireless ADSL Modem/Router form BSNL which will cost you 1,600/- + tax.

Netgear Wgr614 54 Mbps WiFi Router gifts in india at rediff shopping.

Mumbai Lamington Road IS THE place to buy any electronic item.
If there is any problem, you can easily exchange it in the shop.
Buying online, think of delay in getting replacement/service etc.

In INDIA mostly, we have to pay the full price in these Auction sites,
unlike U.S, where you may get this for $25/= by bidding in auction.

    Para two:
If BSNL supplied modem has become dud, You can get a 3 in one
adsl modem+router+wifi for Rs 1600/= plus taxes.
Take the old modem and ask for a new one.
By the way what is the problem with this ?

If you intend to buy outside, the cost will be around Rs3000 to Rs 3500/=

    REF:http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...reference.html (UTSTAR WA3002-G4 quick reference)

I am using it , and wifi range could be about 30 to 40 feet
clear of obstructions. And the lowest priced brand model.

Of course almost all are now made in CHINA !

You may get it in Mumbai for Rs 1500/=.
Get the shop's name stamped in Guarantee card. with Date.

a better option, BTW how can i come to know that the BSNL provided me with adsl modem+router+wifi, i mean, can i differentiate by its physical appearance from that of ADSL modem + router.

Did you check the link given earlier. by me ?
It has most of the the answers to your question.
The adslmodem+router+wifi is called type II or IV.
    Will have a short antenna
    .sl2-141, WA3002-g1 WA3002-g4 DNA A211-I etc
Dont take MT841 -wireless adapter not available.

    Para two : for Ut300r2U
probably you are using a dialer mode.
If you enter ID/PW wrongly no connection.
Then try "Always On " mode.

see the link given earlier .
reset the modem ( Poweron 20 to 30 seconds )
follow screen shots and instructions in item No.7.
    ( ignore Wireless part.)
    or
see this web site and try.
    for dialer mode
The little I know about Dataone Broadband Services offered by BSNL

and router( "always On") another link.

    feedback.
