Smile Connecting two PC/laptop to ZX DSL 831AII modem supplied by BSNL.

I presently use BSNL dataone UL750 plan through my desktop which is a dell pc running win xp sp 3. The system is connected to internet through ZX DSL 831 AII modem supplied by BSNL. everything is working fine. Now I am having a lenovo laptop running windows VISTA. I am connecting internet from desktop through LAN cable. Now I understand that the modem is having a USB port. Whether it is possible to connect internet from my laptop through the usb port simultaneously or not? Or may be I need to buy some piece of hardware or configure something.

I request the experts may please help me through a step by step guide as I am not very much computer savvy.

    Thanks

    Your question

    1.
Use LAN port for laptop ( USB Port draws power from the
computer power supply or batteries ) Also Vista will reject the
USB drivers as Digitally not signed and you may get crash
    screen ( BOD)

    2. Try in desktop USB port.
Disconnect the modem's Usb cable to computer.
Download the USB drivers from CD or On line
and save to say C:/My Documents /USB drivers.

    3. Restart the system
after connecting the Usb cable to Desktop USB port.

    4. Let windows detect New Hardware and ask for Drivers.

    5. If all goes fine you got the USB connection working.

    6. Check in Desktop
    Network/Show all connections
Usb port connection should be seen.

    7. If you are using a Dialer, change over to "ALwaysOn"

    8. In Network/LAN/ properties
    TCP/IP
    properties
select Obtain IP address automatically in both
    desk top and laptop.

    Para two:
    Suggestion ;
If modem on rent try to change it to a type II or type IV
    adslmodem+router and WIFI models.

I really got the best help by the answer giving actual step by step procedure
Moreover two important tips helped a lot,
    1. Configuration of the modem in PPPoE mode
    2. Connection of desktop thru USB & laptop thru LAN

    Thanks again for the help.
