Question static ip is the best for browsing? websites wont open....

Well, im using the home-500 connection with the type 2 router (dna-a211-i)
For about a month now, im having problems with opening particular websites such as youtube,yahoo,msn,123greetings etc .. the text might load and the pictures wont or the text will be mis-aligned or the standard 'page cannot be displayed' message

i had the bsnl iptv installed for past 3 months that would put the router to heavy use.. 3 days back have withdrawn the connection and reset the router to factory settings to remove all the iptv settings
Note: this problem is existing even prior to the withdrawal of the iptv service

this thing was very irritating especially when i wanted to surf utilising the free 2-8 service and the pages wont load! booked several complaints over internet, 1500 but no response.. finally a few mins back, called up the bsnl technical support and the solution the guy gave me actually made things work in a jiffy! but.. im concerned about certain issues..

    he made me do this:

Control panel > network connection > properties of TCP/IP > maually enter the IP,subnet, default gateway, dns servers you want.

I was able to open the websites post this but when asked whether this was a temporary or permanent solution he said 'temporary' since this would make my pc prone to hacks

I stated this problem was never there for the past 2-3 yrs i have been using this, for which he said the modem could be problematic due to long yrs of usage. I got the modem exchanged only about 3 months back in exchange for the type-1 modem! response - > they give you old used modems only na! is this true?

Finally, asked him is there a solution to make the websites work as usual 'without putting my pc at risk with these static ip thing'. he said try removing the ip address and browsing, if they dont work input the settings i gave you manually! still problem - > call us again!

So, thats the story... can someone here help me understand what this problem is all about and how this static ip thing makes things work and why the problem all of a sudden? finally, a safe solution!

    thanks for the help!

First bsnl never give static ip the ip u use is 192.168...is for internal lan from ur pc to bsnl exchange then from there another ip will be generated it will be 59....
with this type of set up its difficult to hack ur pc unless a virus like keylogger, rats presentin ur pc

The problem ur facing may be due to pulgins problem like shockwaveplayer ,adobe flash player update ur browser with this try to use mozilla firefox download latest from its site

Now open ur browser type 192.168.1.1 and for username type admin same for password ur router page will open navigate to Home tree in left side click dns u will see dns address in it already configured see wether its enabled that address is automatically assainged to ur router from bsnl server .now navigate to dhcp check enable and in starting ipaddress last box type 5or number u like but excluding 1 same in ending ip type different number click apply and restart ur modem

wait till ur router restarts then for the ip problem goto Control panel > network and internet connection> network connection > and select the lan card ur using right click it >properties>Tcp/Ip doubleclick it check the option obtain ip address automatically same for dns now click ok. now navigate to start >run type cmd>then type ipconfig /flushdns enter wait for second it will show ur dns sucessfully flushed

    now try with ur sites

There is nothing wrong in entering IP manually. By that way, you are entering LAN IP, not WAN IP. Changing DNS is the best way to get rid of not loading of some websites. Enter Open DNS values

There are a no of DNS servers which we can use. Whichever we use, it will not cause any problem. Open DNS is amongst the best. It will be worth a try.

That seemed to be a good sugestion but after researching a bit on openDNS i see that they could collect certain amount of information from the users that does not cause much concern but nevertheless would not be liked by users!

okay.. so there is absolutely 'no increase' in the risk level of someone hacking into my system by using pre-assigned DNS right instead of using those given automatically by the BSNL servers right?

If the answer is yes, i have no problem in using the ones the BSNL guy gave me .. was concerned because he said the risk is more now..
