Exclamation BSNL Broadband not blocked well

I use bsnl broadband under 250 plan. When i get connected to dataone, it starts sending and receiving packets.. It is normal.. but i have a problem that when i dont use the internet also the packets are received.. the packets received are many times greater than packets send. I DOUBT if any other is using my connection illegally.. the usage increases very fast. I fear that whether my broadband is not blocked well or not.. anyone pls help me...

Sometimes there are viruses/trojans/malware or even plain adware in the system that is quietly exchanging data. Check this out.

There is a possibility that your computer resources ( cppu & ram) are being used by a cracker.

There are many products which has automatic updates. May be your anti virus is downloading updates. The best way is to use a bandwidth monitor like bitmeter. It has a graphical interface which shows your usage when your computer is idle.

Is it possible to find out which program is downloading and what data is being downloaded. Can it be stopped?

For that we need a firewall. My Zonealarm firewall shows which program is downloading. We stop/ban it permanently.

Bitmeter has a graphic interface which can tell if the net connection is idle/uploading/downloading/both.
