    Check settings.
    Try to connect one computer.
    In modem enable DHCP.
    In both computers
    Start network LAn or WLAN
    Properties
    TCP/IP
    properties
    obtain Ip address automatically.
    dns
    existing entries or
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

ADD TO BOOK MARKS IF FOUND USEFUL.

At least mention the model and make of the WIFI router you are using.
In the link I had given, almost 20 to 25 adsl modems/wifirouters , settings
    which are common is available.

Some of the links have step by step instructions with Screen shots.

    Firstly :
connect the Router to a SINGLE computer ( desktop or laptop)
with a RJ45 cable. Get connected to Internet. Confirm you can surf.
    Secondly ;
Then check same way with the other computer ( laptop or desk top )

Thirdly try on system in WIFI mode.

Contributer/s have to make all sort of guess tweaks, because
users are very brief in their reply.
Someone will suggest RESET the modem/router etc.

Since you say the unit is in remote place,
you have to your friend step by step.

    From the computer:
    Start RUN type cmd Ok
    New Window opens:
    type ipconfig /all

post the data without editing or changing Ip etc.
    nothing secret about this.

In the router see Diagnostics Menu.
    send "FAIL" component details.
A screen shot will also help.
Post as annexure jpg picture reduced in size.
( if not from the failed connection , from your own with
    comments )
