Default Technical problem related to uploading big size files. Plz help

    Hi all,

I have been facing this problem for quite sometime. The problem is I'm not able to upload/attach files in mails that are big sized... Even files greater than 200kb approx I'm not able to attach in any web mail, in any browser.

I'm using BSNL Broad Band. Modem is SmartAX MT880. No router. I have given Autoconfiguration of IP and DNS addresses. These are my credentials.

I dont think DNS is a problem since i'm able to browse all websites and download files with ease.

I pinged and checked my maxMTU. It is 1492, since 1452 was the max that was allowed to be pinged. Also, I have tried changing the MTU in Windows XP registry to 1452, 1432 etc. But still this problem persists.

Do help me out with a solution to solve this. This problem is really critical to me.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ranjit

Do you have a firewall ? Disable it and try.

    Lightbulb Upload Problem

    1. If you are in PPPoE mode try changing to Bridge Mode (Dialler).

    2. Disable all firewalls (Windows firewall and any other firewall included with your AntiVirus)

    3. Clear your Browser cache and cookies.

    4. Try with different browser (Opera).

    Hi all,

Thanks for responding to my query.

I'll paraphrase my wordings again. I have tried attaching docs/pdfs/picture images etc in Yahoo, Gmail mail accounts. I'm not able to upload/attach. This is not only related to mails but also other websites. I have tried uploading pictures in social networking sites like orkut/facebook. Still problem persists.

I'm using bridge connection till date for which I reported this problem. I had changed to PPPoE connection type and tried too. Problem still persists.

I had disabled firewall and tried. Problem still persists.

I had changed the MTU in Windows Xp registry by the following way (from Microsoft website)

    To do this:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Ndiswan\Parameters
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
    4. Type Protocols, and then press ENTER.
    5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
    6. Type 0, and then press ENTER.
    7. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    8. Type ProtocolType, and then press ENTER.
    9. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
    10. Type 800, and then click OK.
    11. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    12. Type PPPProtocolType, and then press ENTER.
    13. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
    14. Type 21, and then click OK.
    15. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    16. Type ProtocolMTU, and then press ENTER.
    17. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
    18. Type the appropriate MTU size (decimal value), and then click OK.
    19. Quit Registry Editor.

After changing the MTU too, the problem persists.

I had formatted my harddisk and reinstalled Windows couple of months back. And i vaguely think after reinstall only this problem persists. Is this problem related to Windows or BSNL themselves or the modem I'm using?

Please kindly advise solution to solve this issue.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ranjit

I meant to say upload a file of 200 kb like your image. Thats what i meant. Not about spamming of yours. You are not spamming but giving info.

PS: But your image is just 58kb.

    Download this:http://i26.tinypic.com/29l1bbd.jpg

    Attach this file.

    Lightbulb Upload Problem

You can Hard Reset modem to factory default settings and then configure it again to rule out the Modem from Troubleshooting process.

You can FORMAT your SYSTEM and INSTAL OS again to rule out the OS from Troubleshooting process.

I don't think it is the problem of OS.

    Hi,

The tinyurl pic you have given is 950kb. It doesn't attach.
I also tried with files of 300kb, 200kb and less.
Only files less than 150kb is getting attached.

Whenever such problem occurs, i.e., unable to upload large files, the problem is generally with the MTU/MRU setting.

    1. The ideal value is 1492 (some routers specify this a 1500). Set this value in the router. Retry uploading.

    2. If the value does not work, reduce the value by 8 each time and retry the uploading.

    Hi,

I have tried changing the MTU values in Windows Xp registry. Still problem persists. Anyways, I'm only using a SmartAX MT880 modem. No router.

I set the value to 1460, 1452 and a couple more randomly.

Could you tell me the lower limit I can try this MTU? >1400 ?
