Exclamation Help. Low Download speeds in utorrent

Hello, I am new member in this forum.:12: After reading a few threads i noticed that people have more download speed than me.

I have Home 500 Combo plan
    Speeds :- 256 kbps to 2 mbps
My normal download speed is 55-80 kbps.
But my speed never went above 100 kbps. over 120 very rare. but in some threads i read that people are getting speeds upto 400-500 kbps.

    I have
    Intel P4 2.66GHz Processor
    1.5 GB DDR1 Ram
    Windows XP Professional SP 2

Please suggest me how can i increase my speed. I really need this.

what about direct downloads with IDM? Even I have home 500C plan and my maximum speed with direct downloads is 110 kBps and with torrents is 100 kBps.

I get speeds of about 200 KBps for well seeded torrents.

Please do a speed test at speedtest.net and post a screen shot of the result here.

If you use pppoe mode refer to:-
Port Forward (Torrents and Port Forwarding Guide)

    And for optimizing utorrent:-
    Optimize utorrent speed

The maximum speed I get is 220 KB/s for direct downloading and 210 KB/s for torrents. I haven't done any system tweaking, except for port forwarding (using UPnP) and basic uTorrent settings.

The maximum speed 210/s KB is only when downloading multiple (3 at once) torrents. For single torrents the maximum speed is 180 KB/s and maybe upto 200 KB/s when downloading Linux distros.

And sometimes the speed even gets as low as 10- 15 KB/s even with well seeded healthy torrents.

The maximum attainable speed in 500 plans is 240 KBps. What is the speed you get on direct downloads ? Try TCP/ IP optimizer from speedguide.net.

In case of torrents, port forwarding can help you attain maximum speed. Please mention your modem - model and make for correct guide. You can also refer

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...ing-guide.html

    Please note 1 KBps = 8 Kbps

kishh look at your routers GUI web page the Upload and Downloads Rates. It should be 2048Kbps for download or higher then it and 256Kbps for upload or higher then it. You say your speed never went above 100 KBps. Thats mean your router have 1024Kbps or lower then it. For getting 2Mbps speed you have to increase the port speed. Talk to SDE or DE to solve your problem. If no solution from them then I allrady say a trick to adi420 to solve this problem.

    Question MY Screenshots

These are the screenshots of speedtest.net. However I thing its fake.
Bcoz on 1st test it said 14.1 mbps download speed, 2nd said 2.47 Mbps, 3 said 3.11mbps.

My direct download speed is about 25-40 kbps in internet explorer, 30-60 kbps on firefox and 45-70 kbps in IDM.

Look utorrent sceenshot, its a highly seeded torrent
downloading for 14 hours and average speed about 25 kbps. such a shame.

I really really need help. BTW Thanks to all who have commented.

    Default MOdem

    My modem is UT-STARCOM 96338W2

i have optimized utorrent, used Tcp\ip optimizer from speedguide.net
but today the speed was about 65 kBps.

    i know that 1kB = 8kb

but when the connection was new i had speed upto 120-140 kBps.after a week it was lowering but now, 30kBps.

not at all a good speed.

Go to portforward.com, select your modem and try port forwarding.

In the screenshot of utorrent I see very less number seeders. You get that speed itself for that many number of seeders.(Number of active seeders is in brackets that is what matters).
I also see a green tick mark at the bottom so that means your port is forwarded properly.
Try downloading private torrents or the torrents with a large numbers seeders and also download 2-3 torrents (with good number of seeders around 60 active seeders) at a time. That should increase the speed.
    And post the screenshot here
It would be better if you saved the screenshots in .jpg format as it consumes very little space compared to .bmp and it will be easy for you to upload and also easy for us to view.

256 KBps = 2 MbPS (mega bits per sec).

Thus the vote > 1 Mbps.

If you get 150 Kilo Bytes per sec then Speed is 1.2 Mbps. Usually speed tests and advertised speeds are in Mbits rather than Mbytes.
That capital B and small b really makes a difference.

Regardless of your location, you should get close to 220 kB/s (1.76 mbps).

This is of course based on the seeds/peer ratio, number of silmultaneous torrent (keep at least 3 downloads), and port being forwarded (most important).

    Cool

    hi to all,
1.> let me tell that bsnl 500c plan is not having unlimited downloading ,now
the users with this plan is having free downloading at night so at that time it will rise to 100kbps and much greater speed but with unlimited downloading plan the the speed will not shoot more than 30kbps in bsnl actually they have to balance the users according to plan.
2.> the torrents depends on many factors for speed like your ports are open or not whether the trackers are enough for downloading .

I think there should have been more options in the poll.
There are large number of people who get speeds between 1.0-1.5 and 1.5-2.0 .
