You dont need to upgrade the router firmware.

    First setup your mt882 to bridge mode. VPI= 0 VCI= 35
After seting the Bridge mode connect mt882 Lan port to dir-300 WAN port
The connection cable should be CAT-5 straight through cable with RJ45 connector.
I think you have this cable. This cable use when you connect your Computers lan port to Router mt882 lanport or dir-300 lan port.
Now connect your computer lanport to dir-300 lan port. and browse the GUI web pages.
the address is http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1

To manually set up the Internet connection, click the Manual Internet Connection Setup button on the Router’s opening window.
    Choose PPPoE

    Enter your PPPoE user name.

Enter your PPPoE password and then retype the password in
    the next box.

Enter the ISP Service Name (optional).

Enter the IP address (Static PPPoE only). You dont need this.

Enter the Primary and Secondary DNS Server Addresses IF you need.

Enter a maximum idle time during which the Internet connection
is maintained during inactivity. To disable this feature,
    enable Auto-reconnect.

Maximum Transmission Unit - You may need to change the
MTU for optimal performance with your specific ISP. 1492 is
    the default MTU.

Select either Always-on, Manual, or Connect-on demand.
