Default DataOne hangs, while Modem's Link Indicator still ON

just reformated and re installed windows xp sp2

I setup my DataOne broadband and it was running smooth.

But i keep getting disconnected time after time, something that never happened before the reformat.
Now that could be DataOne problem.
My main problem is that when i GET DISCONNECTED my DataOne still shows connected. My Modem shows stable lights, but no internet
I try to disconnect, cant do. I try to switch off my LAN, cant do. I have my RF Leased line for backup, but cannot hook it up to my LAN because windows still shows DataOne connected.

I can only restart, and connect again, but 3-4 mins later, gone again

and i have to restart again.Cycle goes on and on.

Earlier i used to get some Win32 error before DC, now that error stopped coming

    -----------

The problem is probably one or all of the following:

    1. You have not used a splitter. A splitter splits the data and voice components on the telephone line. The splitter must be at the very first entry point of the telephone line into the house. The modem must be connected to the data port and all telephones in the house to the voice port.

    2. Your SNR margin could be low or Line Attenuation could be high. This is mostly due to bad (copper) line, many joints, corroded at the terminals, etc. The port at the exchange could also be a problem.

    3. The distance from the exchange could be a problem also.

For all of the above issues, there are a lot of solutions in this forum. Check the "Broadband How To" section and the first link of my signature. Check essbebe's posts also.

I used to have that problem(win32 error).....here what i've found.

    Code:
Follow these simple steps and your Windows will be fully cured of this menace :D

    Close Port 445:

    1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) by clicking Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
    2. In the small box that Opens, type: regedit then click the OK button. The Registry Editor will now have opened.
    3. Locate the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters
In the right-hand side of the window find an option called TransportBindName.
Double click that value, and then delete the default value, thus giving it a blank value.

    Close Port 135:

    1. Then you must now navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
    2. You will see there is a String Value called: EnableDCOM
Set the value to: N (it should currently be Y)
    3. Close the Registry Editor. Shutdown and Restart your computer.

Well thats all :) but if you want you can disable NETbios.

    Mention yourm modem/model and make.
How you connect ? Dialer Mode " or PPP/PPPoE()Always On ") mode.
Post ADSL data screen shot as JPG annexure,
    showing snr/attn/mod selected/Line speed/line rate. etc.
    Or post the data
    here..
    Start RUN type cmd OK
    New window
    type ipconfig /all
    Copy/Paste data without editing.

I used to have the same problem.....and yes even after formatting the PC it pops with in minutes. It's just a problem with XP SP2 itself. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894391)

    @gsk6u
The problem is with your Win XP SP2.
    from Post 1.
Earlier i used to get some Win32 error before DC, now that error stopped coming
    Please drop the matter.
You receive a "Generic Host Process" error message after you start the computer, or DBCS attachment file names are not displayed in Rich Text e-mail messages Security update h t t p://support.microsoft.com/kb/894391
quoted by you , is about emails etc.
Security updates are issued every month and
OS update does not stop with SP2. ( issued may be two years back ?) Now SP3 is suggested. Even now we get updates.
Microsoft does not encourage OEM to load XP
and support will cease by next year June 2010 ( Date Not sure )

    Para two:
When user had said that he does not have WIN32 error, you are assuming he has many partitions firewalls /antivirus etc, and persisting in your reply.
Please wait for feedback from thread starter.

    @totallyfandu
The better advice would have been to update to SP3, assuming the user is using XP pro.

What is the connection with intermittent connection and "GHP" error in emails ??????

i faced the problem too but got rid of it.
install a good antivirus like kaspersky and do a full scan on ur computer.
then intall a fresh copy of windows xp sp2 and every thing will be alright.
and after that install a good antivitus so u don't get this error again.
