You can give a try.. replace you current adsl modem if from bsnl on rent to a adsl wireless router.

sure you can use your desktop through Ethernet connection and your laptop through wifi simultaneously.

What bsnl provides is a ADSL Wireless Router, in terms of speed all are same.

Yes. You can use more than one system at the same time. Only requirement is that you should be in PPPoE mode.

if u purchase modem from outside, its your responsiblity and i think they give u 1 year warrenty.
after 1 year , if anything happens to it then you have to buy a new one.

if you buy from BSNL on rent-basis, you can get a replacement on the spot and the same is also applicable after 1 year , 2year .etc.

when u buy on rent, they charge you 60 rs rent per month. check bsnl site for exact amount as rent.

the difference between owning and renting a modem is:-
    1) if u own a modem it is completely urs.....if u have a modem on rent then u have to pay for it every month.

    2) the price for owning a wifi modem is Rs1600......wifi modem on rent is Rs80/month.

    3) if u have any problem with ur owned modem then if its in warranty(generally 1 year) then u can get it replaced......wifi modem on rent can be replaced by BSNL quickly & anytime if any fault.

Nothing. You just need to write an application to get modem replaced providing any reason you want. In my case , i did it recently, and told them that i have got a laptop and hence needs wi-fi type II modem. so SDE signed it and i headed to store department and got it replaced on the spot.
Even if you give a working Type I modem and ask them to give Type II saying the current one does not works, they will replace it with even checking.

So dont worry. No * as such applicable to this.
    Get it from BSNL.

I assume that you have a Type I modem, In that case write an application and get a latest copy of Bill attached to it. and get type II modem in return of Type I

    Note:
    1. you need to submit original/xerox of latest phone bill
    2. Application in written and signed by SDE
    3. Entire old kit of type I modem. including, router,2 telephone wires, CD if provided, Splitter, USB wire if provided. Power Adapter.

    Hope this helps.

Bsnl Wireless routers comes with 4 Ethernet + 1 WiFi.

You can connect 4 Desktops simultaneously directly from router Ethernet ports.

Approx 100 clients or laptops/wireless devices can connect to the 1 WiFi of the router. (Value differs from model to model).
