Question Can type-IV model be used to share files on LAN?

I presently have a type-I modem and now plan to buy a type-IV (my sister now has a laptop). Can I use it to share files in-between my PC and her laptop as well as play multi-player games (on LAN)?
Or should I try other brands like D-link/Netgear?

For sure you can use your type II router supplied by bsnl which has 4 Ethernet ports to transfer files between desktop and laptop.

Sorry if I am offending, but have you done that yourself? I tried it once for my friend, though I could setup internet connection to be shared (pppoe) I was unable to even ping other pc. And when we used a switch for lan (ADSL -> Switch -> PCs) everything was fine.

One last question... Are you able to do that simultaneously, i.e. are you able to share files or browse folders on other PC on lan while downloading something on internet? I might sound stupid, but someone gave me a hint like that.

Thank you very much

Thank you, I will now confidently buy UTStarcom WA3002G4 from BSNL and save a *lot* of money as a side-effect.
