The quality of this thread is truly atrocious, all i see is people posting "my ISP ROCKS DUDE", with little or no explanation.

    Anyway,
Airtel implements fair usage policy which basically means you're bandwidth will be killed (halved/quartered etc etc), if you use more than the "shadow quota" they have for your connection.

If you are the kind of user that uses internet extremely casually, has no interest in downloading movies/software/games etc, and likes to deal will the typical corporate call centers (which actually offer as much "real" help as BSNL); THEN go with airtel.

Otherwise pick one of the BSNL combo plans.

Remember all this obviously is contingent on a) availability and b) local exchange/router issues.

Of course BSNL rox.!! I m using BSNL since past 1 and half month now.. Not a single time i have faced unexpected disconnection not a single time speed problem. Only thing is if you need internet for gaming go for some TATA / Airtel etcs.. BSNL sucks for gaming otherwise it's best

That's because the CS servers are in asia- possibly in india or at the very most somewhere in south east asia.

Try playing other games that will typically not have indian servers and you will never get less than 400-500ms on BSNL.

BSNL is considered to be awful for gaming but almost no one in India cares because people here barely play any games. Even if they do it's ancient stuff like Age of Empires, tomb raider or project IGI.

single digit pings aren't available in all but the most expensive optic fibre ISPs in the USA/EU. Are you implying tata/sify is better than them

I choose BSNL because I am using it from 2 years no problems, just 2 or 3 outages. Very much satisfied with their connectivity, speed and value for money.

i guess its totally useless to have the plans 500c and 500 C+,
they should modify the plans instead of giving 2mbps night 2am to 8am, they can give 1mbps night unlimited from 10pm to 7am.

most people who are waiting to download will atleast get some sleep.

bhai whr i work i hv bsnl n at my home its airtel so i m hving both .....its after comparisons m talking chk the plans of bsnl thy suck literally...m at 1399 plan with airtel at home n just love tht plan ...1mbps at night ul....while at bsnl m at 512 kbps ul....which suck.....

as for the service i will let u know of one instance ...my connection wasnt working at midnight 2.00 am ..so i called up the cc tht very instance n lodged the complaint within 6-7 hrs the engineer of airtel was at my home......

although i agree he didnt get the prob but something he did (even he didnt know wht to do) tht made my net work up..n was gud going..
with bsnl i lodged the complaint(the telephone goes busy n if it connects the cc picks up n keeps it on table so again engaged)the second day an old man of 50 yrs came to my house saying tht he was the engineer ..i was astonished to see tht bsnl dosent hv young engineers at its service thn he chked my yahoo n rediff said its working whn i made him saw tht see my connection is reconnecting again n again he too did something but nothing changed ..lol...he went back saying tht everything is okay i hv chked ur line n all....dont know whts the problem...in the end i m still struck at discoonection n reconnection issues....

so my story is always ended with airtel helping me out more or less fast n reliable also at one time the airtel engineer asked me not to call their cc n if their is any problem just call him directly(tht was a request made by the airtel engineer)...whn i asked him why he said the cc goes mad at us....with no fault of ours.

so my friend i guess i found airtel ppl more cooperative thtn bsnl which sucks the most.

I always tend to vote for airtel among these two as i have good experience with airtel and bad experiences with bsnl customer care

thats a good sign to have a good competition and let us wait for good plans from many providers including airtel, bsnl, etc

yeah, you might be affected by them but do let me tell you truth. The bsnl connections is some areas fare exceedingly better and in some areas it very worst, depends on the conditions, number of connections and type of people I suppose

well i chose BSNL, since I've been using it for years and never had problems. and the plans are fantastic too. Airtel too is marvelous but it would be better to test the quality of service in that area, speed, etc.

Basically the Operators (ISPs are here to make business and not to run chowltries offering free and unlimited bandwidths and / speeds. While BSNL being a PSU, perhaps they my have that carry forward bureaucracy, but not for money making alone. I do agree that they are to improve the CS aspect. Many a time, we cant even reach the customer service of PVT firms. Only their vender would speak.

Yeah, actually BSNL needs to have better Customer Care Facilities, most of the agents have little or no knowledge at all about the DSL technology, routers, etc. They can atleast have a proper Forum with knowlegeable moderators and admins.
