    Unhappy Bandwidth usage

    Hi

I was using a Sify Broadband connection with 1.2GB download; I had recently switched over to BSNL's Convenient 250 package which gives 1 GB download. My usage pattern has certainly NOT changed; It is the same as before. But earlier the 1.2GB download limit will get exhausted in 4/5 weeks. But in BSNL the 1 GB got exhausted in less than a week and I am already on paid usage. Is there any significant difference in the way the usage is computed between Sify and BSNL. I am monitoring the usage now with ShaPlus Bandwidth Meter 1.3 and the usage runs like an auto meter which is tampered with.

Have you checked your computer for spyware/viruses etc?

The best thing to do to put an end to this crossing the limit on data usage worry would be change to an unlimited package.

Internet was never meant to have any limits or boundaries.

I don't think you there is a change in usage calculation. I too use Shaplus Bandwidth meter. Please mention you connection mode. Is is PPPoE or Bridge ?

If you are in PPPoE, you can connect to internet by simpling switching ON the modem. In settings of Shaplus, select the correct interface. If in bridge, only WAN (PPP/SLIP) interface need to be selected. If in PPPoE mode, select only VIA compatible Ethernet adapter.

Thanks for all your the response. It is PPoE connection. I don't think there are any viruses or malware as the notebook is shielded by online Firewall/ virus protection with up to date updates / every day full system scanning.

Are you going completely on the readings of the bandwidth meter. Check your usage in the BSNL portal. Shaplus can never measure accurately, always use it only as a reference. Trust only your Portal measurements. Because BSNL will trust only that.

No I look at to ShaPlus only as a reference while online; I check the BSNL Broadband Usage 2.0 application every day morning first thing to monitor the usage in the previous day

Is your problem solved or are you still exhausting all your limit within few days?
PS: Every day scanning of your laptop?!? How much patience do you have?

The speed may be higher on BSNL than SIFY that's why your usage is exhausted in less time....

You have revived an old thread after almost 15 months !!!
This meter can be used with systems having MAC OS only.
