    Please post in LINUX forum.
IN XP sp3 can you connect to Internet ?
    2.
    try equivalent commands in LINUX.

    Start/Network/LAN
    Properties
    Network settings page
On top a box will appear showing the
    ethernet card details.

    3.
Search in Google for Linux drivers
    for the ethernet card listed.
    Probably some Realtek card.

    2.
I have no idea about LInux OS>
    From GOOGLE search:
    term : modprobe in Linux.
modprobe - Linux Command - Unix Command
