Exclamation Home 500 + UT300R2u bandwidth suddenly reduced

Hi, I'm using BSNL H500 plan and for the past few months my bandwidth reads only around 1.6 Mbps max.......
My download speeds in torrents only goes upto 180 KBps max with port forwarding and private trackers.........
I was getting full speeds of around 220-230 KBps until this happened.......
I tried G.DMt mode disabling adsl and adsl 2+ but it only furthur reduced my speed........
My signature shows the speeds was getting 2-3 months back....
I contacted the local BSNL authorities but they could't find any fault with my line.......

I'm using XP-SP2 with Mcafee total protection........ I tried on a couple of systems at home but no change...........

    Hi raghuram333, Im from Kerala.......
Really its irritating to see speeds dropping from 230 to 170 KBps.....
Before I used to download 4-4.5 GB each day 2-8 free hours..... Now it hardly touches 3.5GB.....
It seems a common problem with so many users downloading at the same time.......
    Hope it gets resolved soon.....

    Essbebe...... Meetdilip..... Whr r u????
Do u have a any possible solution to this problem??
I have also heard that ports can be decisive in speeds as well....
How can i apply for a change of port???

This is a BSNL server problem. There is nothing we can do. Request a port change application at your local exchange. It may work.

Not the port we use raghuram333...... Our connection is port binded in the sense that even if someone get out id,pass they cannot use our account from another telephone line...... Our connection can be used only from our telephone line.... This port binding is done at Bangalore I heard where they set the bandwidths for each connection.....

The only probable explanation to our problem I can see is that BSNL is on a rotating policy giving everyone a turn..... I remember I began having these problems from July 1st...... Same day the id,pass in my modem also changed somehow and I had to set it again.....

So guess what, problem is not ours, but BSNL's...... They might be trying to facilitate as many customers as possible with the current resources........ Also from various posts in the forum we can see that the local BSNL guys were never able to solve these problems..... Most often than not, it got solved by itself...... So, waiting hopefully..... Just now checked the utorrent speeds..... 178 KBps.......:32:
4 months back same time it used to be 220-230 KBps...........

If you see my signature you will see that it was taken on June 13th.......... the last month i saw 220-230 speeds............

accosrding to me Port binding is al happens in yer local area exchange i guess....and bandwidth is also set there itself...for speed contrl speed caps is used..the only reason they might put it,if users in that area exceeds, they will hav to use their avialable resourses...so they might hav decreasede it for us,(had exceeded bandwidth earlier)......

so if it will get alrite by itself, how much time shd i wait....1 mnth?

I came to know from the BSNL local authorities that it is at Bangalore the port speed is set and these people have no control over it.....

As far as the waiting time is concerned, I have been waiting for nearly 4 months now......

After enabling just the G.dmt mode bandwidth showed 1.7Mbps.......
But after restart again the ADSL modes got enabled.......
Now I again disabled the ADSL modes and checked but the line rates got reduced...... Bandwidth read around 1.6 Mbps......
I will check 2-8 and post what speeds I get....

The BSNL guy also told to switch to bridge mode...... I didnt try it so far.... Let me see if the modulation change helps......

I didnt do a reboot from the management menu coz on giving the save/apply there the modem rebootted, but the settings wont remain.......

In Bridge mode you need not do the port forward...... I think you will have to dial in from your computer while using bridge mode....... I haven't tried it so far.....

and speed...... I dont see much of a change with g.dmt mode alone......

Are you using any firewall?? I just disabled my Mcafee firewall and enabled just the windows firewall..... Now getting about 180 KBps speed consistently...... (with torrents).......

CAN ANYBODY PLS TELL HOW TO SETUP BRIDGE MODE FOR UT300R2U??
I CONFIGURED THE MODEM BUT WHEN I TRIED DIALLING IN, IT SAYS WRONG PASSWORD??

what is the username, password you have to use for dialer....?
Is it the one which we use to check our usage or the one which we enter into the modem settings in pppoe mode?
pls give the format...... is "@bsnl.in" needed?

even my modem is the same..1st giv apply after selecting the modulation type....then reboot from management....for the next use the settings wont change for me....

in T.413 the line rates are 2048 and 512(dld and uld(kbps))...a slight increase in the bandwidth...the download speed remained consistenly at 160-180kbps....that may be due to torrent seed limits.....downloaded total 3.2gb(2:30-8am).....that makes-complete bandwidth has been used .......

am using avast....never disable firewall in p2p sharing....its risky:nono:....else use peer gaurdian

with g.dmt as mode, do a save/reboot from management menu..... I did that and now the settings remained even after power off......

    u enabled T.413 mode alone???
i think g.dmt mode is somewhat ok for me...... speeds stayed at about 180-185 most of the time...... (with best torrents from private trackers.....:thumbup1

am using avast....never disable firewall in p2p sharing....its risky:nono:....else use peer gaurdian
I disabled mcafee firewall and enabled windows firewall..... Later on i turned it back on again and there wasn't much difference in speed...... got 180-185......

the bsnl guy told me bridge mode will offer slightly better speeds than pppoe.... will try that tomorrow......

    if u enable T.413 and G.dmt,it will select the latest one i.e G.dmt....so if u want T.413,untick G.dmt.......

180-185 -download speed rite??? or does it include uploads also????

ok....am waiting for yer reply on bridge mode,,,,why tommo??? today is good!!!!:thumbup1:

Actually this bandwidth is fine as per the plan......but after using it in high speeds,,,,its hard to accept this "low" speed.....

ok....me staying with T1.413 for now...its the oldest type of modulation...but still ,am wit it....

I read that,if there s port shortage-they might be upgrading their dslam swithes.......so due to this there may be temporary reduction in speed.......but in yer case 4 months-means something else.......

ok,get me the bridge results later

i wanted to ask this-but forgot-i said some bsnl guy said this--but u in kerala---so,how does banglore NIB decide yer speed limits???

sorry, that was a mistake........ Initially when i took the connection, there was some delay in getting it..... whenver i tried contacting them, they used to say that the Bangalore centre is where the speeds are set......

now when i contacted them i clarified it...... the port speed is set locally....

I will let u know the bridge speeds tmrw morning..........

Right now i have configured bridge mode and find it very useful..... even did auto downloading at a particular time with computer hibernated......... (just 2 command files needed....)

ya, most probably..... the line man said there are quite a few H500 connections in our area.......

u must guide me abt bridge man,if its a success....i don know the procedure
I tried bridge mode today.... pretty impressed with it......
The speeds are almost the same.... hovering around 180 KBps.....

Things I liked about bridge mode......

    • easy to configure......
    • will surely save some bandwidth.......
    • able to change ip in 3 seconds.........(just 2 clicks.....!!)..........
    • auto downloading at night much easier..... (just two cmd files will do...).....
    • utorrent picks up max speed after a disconnection in quick time..... (30
      seconds, just now i saw.......).........

here is how you configure bridge mode...... just make sure you back up the settings from management menu in case something goes wrong.....
ALSO have your bsnl ID, password with you, the mail ID supplied by bsnl i mean not the portal id used to check usage......:nono:

The little I know about Dataone Broadband Services offered by BSNL

STEPS TO CREATE A DIALER IN XP SP2.........

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network and Internet Connections.
    2. Click Network Connections, and then click Create a new connection in the Network Tasks pane.
    3. After the Network Connection Wizard starts, click Next.
    4. Click Connect to the Internet, and then click Next.
    5. Click Set up my connection manually, and then click Next.
    6. Click Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password
    7. Type the Internet service provider (ISP) name (BSNL) and then click Next.
    8. Type the user name that the BSNL provided. (bsnl mail id without "@bsnl.in".
    9. Type the password that the BSNL provided.
    10. Type the password one more time to confirm it, and then click Next.
    11. Click Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.
    12. Click Finish to complete the wizard.

That's it..... just open the shortcut on desktop and click connect...........
Also make sure the properties of the dialer is as below........

Dude is this called bridge mode....???? am already using this....And this is PPPoe mode.....wen u tick for "connect using bb that requires username and pass"-below its given -this is known as PPPOE.....!!!!!

The only thing is i havent selected is bridge in the modem...instead i hav left the username and pass blank in PPPOE mode itself....so it does not autoconnect.....

If u are using more than 1 pc(using LAN),selecting bridge in the modem will help..as users can connect wen they req, thus saving the bandwidth for others who r using....for a single connection---no changes will be there for PPPOE or bridge......this is what i hav understood from what u hav said...

whats the use of saving bandwidth man???? use al the available bandwidth !!!!

can u exlain me how auto downlading is done using this??????

Have you configured bridge mode in modem also??
If you use DMZ to forward ports, it's pppoe mode..... I haven't tried but I think we can create a dialler for pppoe mode also (like you said dialling with a password without storing in the mdem....)
In pppoe mode, our IP becomes the LAN IP, like 192.168.1.2......
Whereas in bridge mode our IP is the external WAN IP itself......
This is the reason why we don't need to forward ports in bridge mode......
If you are still unsure of whether you are using bridge or pppoe go to command prompt and type "ipconfig/all"............. (without " ")
