    Default Frequent Interruption

    Hi guys

I have a BSNL 750u/l plan and was using u3000t modem supplied by BSNL. This modem failed after doing service for 2 years. Fail indication for this modem: ADSL light was going off every two minutes. Line was checked for integrity by the lineman and was all right. So I changed to Dlink 802C modem few days back.

    All settings have been made.
    Port forwarding has been configured.

    Problems that I face:

Internet connection is lost after exactly 15 minutes, and is restored after 2-3 minutes. Not able to figure out what is the exact problem. Anybody can help please?

Confirm you have installation CD or user manual CD.

    Change dns to 208.67.220.220
    and also 208.67.222.222
Post ADSL or connection statistics page as JPG picture as annexure here , or upload at tinypic.com and give
    as ( example )
    hxxp ://i34.tinypic.com/we456.jpg
    REF page for 802 C.

thanks essbebe. I have made the changes in DNS. Will watch the connection and report if it misbehaves. ironically, it never used to disconnect for torrent download.

talktoanil, would be nice if you read the complete post before asking me to buy a new modem.

    Please give feedback.
Post correct details of the old modem you have used.
The number does not appear to be a correct one.

    Present modem

    DLink: GLB 802C.

Previous modem (dropping line) 3000RT2 - not using it anymore.

I have changed the DNS settings in the system config as shown in the attached file. The problem is still there. It is not exactly a disconnection, looks like it just times out. :48:

    Default ADSL link down ?

NO ADSL LINK means, your modem is not in sync with Exch equipment since the signal received by modem is not sufficient OR the equipment at exchange end is faulty.
Soln1: Connect your modem directly with telco line without filter or telephone or caller-ID etc , Observe now whether ADSL is ok
If OK the problem is inside house wiring.

Sol2: UT300R2U modem works on 9/12Volt AC only. Do not use 12Volt DC adapter.

Sol3: Open the Modem setup page by typing 192.168.1.1

    Give username/pwd as admin

Check the status of ADSL line quality by obseving SNR value & downlink speed.
    Optimum value is >2048Kbps downlink
SNR Value must be greater than 25 Db
otherwise adsl signal is attenuated in UG cable or house wiring.
If sometimes u get an adsl signal means YOUR MODEM or EXCH EQUIP is not FAULTY.
    Sol4:
Try by Changing ADSL modulation type as GDmt or ADSL2
    (Check 192.168.1.1 , Advanced > ADSL )

    Note:
Do not always use open DNS?
Change the setting to automatic DNS from Server
DLINK is not good for BSNL , since it uses fake MAC address

Your remote attn may pass. 29.5 db
    still should reduce.
    1.
Your Local attn 53.5 db is really bad.
Check all cables connectors for corrosion balckening
    oxidization/high resistance contacts.
    2. Keep only One phone connected
from ADSL splitter. Modem any way connected
Direct to Phone Junction , even with ADSl splitter in use.
( may be ADSL splitter is Faulty and Data signal is not
    blocked to Telephone line )
    2
    .Disconnect all Parallel
phones if any in other rooms. extra adsl splitters
required , wherever you have a parallel Phone
    wall socket.

    3. Change Mod mode to GDMT
and recheck SNR Attn data .
    feedback.

    4.
Still the old modem number given is not correct.
Previous modem (dropping line) 3000RT2 - not using it anymore.
    is it Utstar UT300R2U ?
Check in this website and select your modem model / company name ..
    BSNL BROADBAND MAIN MENU

or post Device Info screen shot.

Yes, the previous modem was UT300R2U. This modem has failed as ADSL light was going off every few seconds. This modem has been replaced by DLink GLB 802C which is giving a problem of frequent time out/interruption. Regarding present problem:

    1. I have checked all lines, no problem.
    2. There is only one phone connected through splitter (splitter that came with DLink modem in use). No parallel phone.
    3. How to change Mod mode to GDMT? Can't find it in DLink options.
    4. If you check the alrm.jpg attached early, it shows PPPoE server down every 9 minutes for ppp0. When I run diaganostics tool with pppo, it always shows PPPoE server conenctivity "failed". When i change it to ppp1, connectivity is always "Pass". What could be the reason for this?

Do you have user manual for GLB 802 C ? confirm

    ppp0 ppp1 may be for different Vpi/VcI
we are interested in 0 and 35 for BSNL.
This link can be either "Bridged' or PPPoA/PPPoE.
Please post screenshots of different settings
    pages you have mentioned.

    Para two:
If Ut300R2u connects even for a minute
Check Statistics/adsl page and post screen shot.

Yes I have the manual. Screenshot for system config is in Post #8. I have attached screenshots for pppo and ppp1 WAN interface that I explained earlier. It is getting really frustrating. Another symptom: When this problem occurs, I am not able to open even the GLB802C home page by typing 192.168.1.1. Any solutions?

pppO what is VPI and VCI ?
    ppp1 what is VPI/ VCI ?
    In post 8 vpi/vci shown as 0 and 35
    is it for ppp0 or ppp1 ?
Only one config/sys can be seen at a time.

Mine for Airtel ISP and BSNL ISP:
Vpi/Vci Con. ID Category Service Interface Protocol Igmp QoS State Remove Edit
    1/32 1 UBR br_1_32 ppp_0_1_32_1 PPPoE Disabled Disabled Enabled
    0/35 1 UBR pppoe_35_1 ppp_0_0_35_1 PPPoE Disabled Disabled Enabled
I can connect to either one at a time.
    Post ipconfig /all data.
