Thread: How to use wifi with Nokia Siemens Type 2 modem

Hello everyone
i have recently got BSNL 512Kbps plan
I have got a type 2 modem which is Nokia Siemens company
i have tried to follow the website and try to configure it myself but i couldnt do it
am trying to connect and use it with my 5800 Xpress music mobile.
a bit of help is appreciated

Give full model number may be
Nokia Siemens Network 1600
or siemens sl2_141

Confirm you checked the link given in Post No 2.

Now you are on "Dialer" Mode and enter userId and PW
in a window in the computer. Change to "Always On" mode.

Start Network
show all connections
Select LAN
properties
network connections page
select tcp/ip
properties
Select Obtain IP address automatically.
DNS
enter
208.67.220.220
208.67.222.222
Apply Save.

enter your userId ( without @ bsnl.in) PW

Also enable DHCP in modem.
SAVE Reboot wAIT FOR 2 minutes.

4. Confirm you get connected to Internet. in LAN mode

5. Confirm your can connect in WIFI mode. ( remove LAN cable )

just tried the procedure in the chennai web page
am able to connect to net through PC i.e; thru ethernet
still getting no gateway reply in my 5800 Xpress Music
maybe i need to do some settings in it....will try now

Tried every trick i found in the net
still couldnt connect to net thru my mobile

what i am concerned is there is no default gateway present as shown in this pic

You don't follow suggestions properly.
Wthout proper feedback, I cannnot help further.

1)I followed everything according to the chennai website
it had the same points as you gave above
2)Even regarding the wireless lan i followed according to chennai website.
3)I selected PPPoe and unchecked Bridge just as you mentioned
4)If the above procedure is to create a connection in lan mode then i have successfull connected to net thru lan mode
5)I am able to connect to the mobile thru wifi.But when i try to browse net i get NO Gateway Reply error.Which lan cable should i remove?

Recheck above data and post it here.

Does the WiFi network show it as
secured or unsecured ? The same name you had entered in Modem/router should appear.

Lan card in your computer Desktop or laptop.
Confirm.

When i disconnected the isp connection i am able to connect to the Wlan network just as before.

Save settings menu option wll be available.

in wan PAGE deselect "BRIDGED" AND select

You can refer this to configure your router in PPPoE Mode.

1.) BHARAT SANCHAR NIGAM LIMITED

2.) SL2_141 (Type-B) ADSL MODEM MULTIUSER CONFIGURATION

Best go with First option it will be easy.

No there is no need for a CD, you can get it done yourself.

Enter the same DNS in modem and in Network settings.
Better try Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and opendns 208.67.220.220

Note down BSNL dns for use later if needed.
( also can be entered in TCP/IP properties page
DNS advanced/wins)

wil make a thread about it now so that others wont face the same problem

hey the solution is simple....
your have to follow everything as mentioned in the below procedure

in the number 10 point you will have to check ENABLE IGMP MULTICAST

this will allow multiple connections to be accepted by the modem whether its through lan or wifi....

friends earlier according to the bsnl servant i was connecting through a dial-up made by him, but now all bcoz of you i dont have to dial-up and it gets connected autometically thank you very very much

can you please help once more for billing complaints bcoz i am using broadband since 18,dec2009 i.e.from the mid of the past month and i have appied for home 500 plan in which there is night unlimited tarrif betwn (2am-8am). i have used a huge amount of data during the free hours but for the begning 6-7 days they have counted it in my bill adn due to this my usage reaches to about 10 gb. then i called to coustmer care and he told me that its a mistake, from that day data usage during free hours are not added, in the same month.
like date 19-12-09, 04:40:42am-07:47:32am data 2568888 and it was included
but after the complain it was like
date 24-12-09, 03-07-51am-07-59-21am data 2986660 but the amount to be charged was 0
