    Do you connect the modem through USB or through LAN Card?

    RESPONSE:
    Please drop "sir" here.
    You have not mentoned whether the friend also gave the modem UT300R2U.
    Assuming it was yours &set for a bsnl connection wth VPI/VCI 0 and 35.

    Para two:
    Step ONE:
    You need drivers for Ethernet or USBconnection which you have to load
    from backup if any to your system.
    If not available Google search for the
    ethernet card drivers.
    USB drivers may be diffcult to get.

    Step TWO;
    You have to create a LAN connecton n your computer.
    Start/All programs/ Accessories/Communcatons
    Network connection wizard.
    Step Three :
    If still not working refer these links.
