    Default dataon connection freezes randomly

    hi

    i have a bsnl unlimited 750 home connection, [d link glb 802 c ] [ppoe ]

and the problem is the connecting gets cut randomly , the data led simply stops blinking , sometimes both data and adsl led turns off ,
and i thought maybe the data light stopped because of inactivity from my part so what i do is i just open opera and set it to refresh a page automatically every 5 seconds and yes that helped .. but not always .

so what's exactly is the prolblem ??

But the most annoying scenario is this :

usually i start my torrents or Download manager when i am away from the desk and when i get back to my desk i stop the downloads to resume browsing , but then as soon as i stop the torrent or downloads the data light stops blinking and i have to restart the modem , this happens everytime i stop downloads

Do you have the user manual or
    Installation CD ?
Try to change Mod mode to GDMT

    REF: Manual for GLB802C
( not seen in D'Link web site)

    1. Post No 2 Router used GLB802C
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/136min
2.Your phone line /internal connections rj11 rj45 etc are in pretty bad condition. Attenuation is very high.

3.Do you use an ADSL splitter ?
Remember RJ11 from Phone junction goes to
    router direct .

    BSNL Phone PORT==Rj11 ==>>ADSL Splltter
ADSL: Phone Port =>> RJ11==>> ALL PHONES
    ADSL:MODEM PORT==>RJ11 ==>>>GLB802C

4.Change Mod to GDMT and see any improvement. in SNR/ATTN

apart from what essbebe said, also check that
you have splitter in proper place.

main telephone line shld go to splitter and then to telephone.

also one form splitter shld go to router.

also make sure that their is no noise in normal voice call.

yeah phone line goes to a splitter and then 1 goes to the phone and the other to the router

its a regular line splitter ,like the ones we use for parallel connection you know with the bsnl logo and all .. is there a particular splitter for broadband ???

and . when i download stuff i get the maximum speed from the connection 30 to 35KBPS now as i am on unlimited 750

    and 150 - 180 kBPS when i had home 250/500

its just the normal splitter which came with your router....

and BSNL UL 750 plans is 256Kbps so download speed = 256/8 = 32 Kbps max.

Home 250 plans has got data limits of 1 GB and its Up to 2Mbps and hence you use to get high speeds.

    ADSL Configuration

    Annex Mode Config: automatic
    User Selected Annex Mode: adsl2
    Trellis: enabled
    Handshake Protocol : adsl2+auto
    Bit Swapping: enabled

    this is the current setting

and when i try to change annex mode to manual and then handshake protocol to GDMT

    i get an error message

see this is what i have in my router....check for same in yours.
if its already on , then it might be some line issues. in that case you need to book a complaint with BSNL.

And a particular problem is that i always get disconnected right after i stop the torrents or some huge download that lasts more than 15 minutes or so

why the hell does that happen ????

from my layman point of view i thought the modem after handling heavy data transfer of torrents coudst adjust to the small data transfer of a website

i think you are new to BSNL.

book complaint ...dial 198 (it works for me and in my area)

you will get the complaint number,

next , BSNL will call you and ask for problem...simply tell them the problem you face.

"My net gets Disconnected after evey 15-20 mins" thats it.

note your current SNR and Atten. values...and check after any repairs they do from there side.

they will call you back once they have solved the problem. put them on hold for 1 day and check if still face any problems.

not exactly i've had this connection for almost 2 years now , but i've never stayed home for this long a period before ..

    anyways comming to the point

bsnl recently shifted their exchange to a new location so that might be a cause of the problem , maybe they patch up the lines properly

anyways the new Broadband guy here is pretty good , unlike other bsnl employees this guy is an avid troubleshooter and so i wanned to know exactly what i should tell him to sort this mess

anyways i'll tell him about SNR and line attenuation values .. and let's see

    i'll post updates ..

    thanks for ur help

    ciao
