Default ICC NetSpeed (Thru BSNL) PPPoE problem with UK Laptop

    Hey guys,

I have been trying to solve this problem for the past one week and its getting really frustrating cause nothing seems to work. Heres the scenario

    1. A UK laptop running on Windows XP SP2

    2. Got a 1Mbps 5GB limit connection from ICC NetSpeed (Pune) (PPPoE)

    3. When I ping external addresses everything works. (have also pinged ip, dns server etc) When I open my browser the home page shows up (this is only when I restart and connect the first time after that its downhill) but after that i cant browse or anything

    I have tried the following:

    A. Checked the LAN settings of the Internet Browser (No Proxy Server Setting)

    B. Ran various Winsock programmes that would've hopefully corrected any corrupted winsock files

    C. Found the exact MTU and configured my network adapters as per that

None of these work. I do not have a modem number since the wire just comes down from the roof.

    Below is my ipconfig/all result

(i dont know why my adapter has a lease expiry date on it it never showed up before, i.e. I ran all the above tests without ever seeing that):

    202.149.208.92
202.149.208.11 copy these DNS as given by the Company, I checked ..in IP location website.
    http://www.ip2location.com/demo.aspx

    Option 1:
    Try 8.8.8.8 and 208.67.222.222
    ( google and openDNS)
    apply Save.
Since you don't have a Modem/router to fiddle around , try in /Network settingsTCP/IP properties page.
    Option 2:
Your ethernet card appears to be built in motherboard.
    Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Cont
In same Network settings, on top box select configure and check in Advanced diffferent options.
    Feedback.
    Info required;
Any Antenna or box fixed in the roof ?
The Rj45 may connect to a PoE modem.

    Default Resolved

Well I got a guy to come over and check it. He said it had to do with some virus, so he basically reformatted my comp.

Its solved now... the only thing thats weird tho is that he reinstalled Windows Xp Pro with an anti virus program called "Quick Heal", and a lot of times i open up some websites (even like the JAVA SUN website) it says that it detected a worm and deleted it, I dont know if those viruses still exist in my system even though it was formatted...

    Anyone any ideas??

    !!!
Do you have the XP installation CD?
    SP2 or SP3 update done ?

go to http://filehippo.com and download FREE
    Antivirus and Antispy applications.

    Default Problem again

The guy installed the Windows XP from his set.

    However it stopped working again

I think it might have to do with my external hard drive, I ran a virus scan on all of them but couldnt find anything. It looks like it might be spyware/adware etc cause i then scanned Spybot and it spotted a couple of things....

I am assuming my external harddrives then had some trojans (tell me if I am assuming correct)

My question is how to find these in the external harddrive cause Spybot S&D only runs of the main system and doesnt check the externals

    Any ideas??

pirated copy. Genuine XP costs around Rs 5000 to Rs 7000/= ( with Sp2 )
You cannot /may not use Windows (automatic )update site/s. WGA will be checked.
    Para two:
In My computer external drives will have Directory names allotted, like for CD Rom D : E : etc.
    select the directory.
( did not check option in SpyBot: rarely used)

Am I clear that by typing ip number you get the site, and using url you don't?
    Do you use I.E
if so, please relax the security settings in I.E after opening the explorer.
you may set them to Medium, Medium-Low and Low for the Internet, Intranet and Restricted sites locations and save them
perhaps, thereafter you would get you internet browsing normalized.

    Default Hopefully fixed now

So found out there was a trojan on my external harddrive, used avg and spybot Search and destroy to find the trojans then had to go to the file to delete it. (AVG said the file was too big to delete however it gives you an option to go to the file and delete it manually so did that)

The guy who looked over it said that putting in multiple antivirus softwares can mess up ur comp but since my apps i.e avg and spybot weren't very stressful on my system it was okay.

Just to let you people who read this know the problem sometimes with these anti spy softwares is that they just identify and then quarantine them but dont delete them and all of them dont show all the trojans eg: avg will show some that spybot would not.

After manually deleting these trojans the comp guy came over and I think he just ran the anti virus he had installed (Quick Heal) in Safe mode to take care of anything else and just ran an antivirus check on my external harddrives.

Also before I had the problem the second time i.e. after he had formatted my comp the first time, I had opened docs from my external HD before scanning it for viruses, After wards when i did scan it my anti virus picked some things and deleted them but I think by that time they had spread to my comp.

Works fine at this point so the lesson here is scan ur external HDD before using them

Yahoo Toolbar with Yahoo Antispy is quite fast.
Quick scan after update takes barely 2 or 3 minutes.

    Very bad conclusion.
YES. There are many single system users who have genuine Windows XP OS.

No reputed computer manufacturer , like Dell/HP/ACER will load a pirated version , and sell it to you.
It will be OEM installation with a crash recoveryCD available separately. ( No XP Installation CD given )
Any way why Business should use Genuine versions?
    You know the reason.
If tracked , they have to pay hefty damages to Microsoft.
    They can/ also afford
    to pay for Original software.

    ,

Once I had to to reboot the OS, in another Laptop and validated on Phone, by giving the details to MS.
Now even on line authentication is done in seconds.

cool bro...i tht like tht...lappys now r provided with original oem windows but those suckers charge 5k bucks for tht....n m not ready to pay thm a single pie for loading windows...as for validation n all the cracked windows which we load up need no activation n still gets updates from the microsoft site.
still i admire u ..u r the first person i hv heard who was using original windows..coz in my acer lappy n my pc windows gets corrupted within a month or two coz thy r connected to net most of the time ..n i hv to format thm once in two months to get the system back......original windows do no gud for me........secondly the original windows hv some minor issues which we get solved up in cracked windows....all i wanna say its the choice..u hv money go get the original windows for 5k bucks(though i m not preferring tht although i hv money ..lol)..if u dont money ,, dwnld the cracked versions.... thy r damm gud n better than the original windows....
