Smile speed of 500combo bsnl old customer versus new customer

hi this is my another thread .....
first of all i want to make u clear why i am saying speed of 500combo bsnl old customer versus new customer......this is because of the following reasons-----
1)bsnl is transfering new connection to the another server ,,,which they called multiplay server....
2)bsnl is not transferring the connection of old customers from dataone to multiplay servers....
3)so old dataone customers will get speed around 250 kb/sec while customers on new multiplay server will get torrent speed around 170kb/sec...
4)bandwidth cap exist on new multiplay server ...but the advantage of this server the bsnl guy said to me is that there will be no downtime in this server as compared to the old data one customer.....
so i request u to all to freely post ur speed mentioning ur speed and also mentioning r u dataone or multiplay mode and if u dont know this then please tell when u took the broadband connection............thanks n hoping for ur reply...

BSNL Multiplay customers get speed about 215 Kbps. But while using P2P clients, some amount of it gets used up by network overheads (ACK packets). So you get speed around 170 Kbits. You can observe it if you are using a bandwidth monitoring tool.

No you can't. It works like this: For each packet (pieces of the file) you download via bittorrent your client has to sent ACK (acknowledgment) packet to the server where the the packet came from. Imagine that you have an internet connection with 100 Kb download speed and 50 Kb upload speed. Also assume that your bittorrent upload speed is also set to 50 kb. Then there is no bandwidth to upload ACK packets for the pieces you receive, because all the available bandwidth has been used for file uploading. The servers which send you the packets wait for some time to your replay through ACK packets. If they don't receive any they conclude that your internet connection is down and they stop sending the pieces. So your download speed suffers. So one should always set the maximum upload speed of a bittorrent client to 80% of your internet speed. So the remaining 20% will be used for sending ACK packets. Same thing with download speed also. For the pieces you upload you receive ACK packets from the client you are sharing your file with. So if you have 100 Kbits download speed, then actual speed you'll get is around 80 to 90 percent.

i get an average of around 183 kB/s for torrents from private trackers..

i had a peculiar thing that happened to me around 4 months ago.. i got my dataone connection almost a year n half ago.. i am on the home 500 combo plan.. i used to get around 230 kB/s for all my torrents from private trackers which i gather is the max speed possible for a 2 mbps from bsnl

But the speed dropped to 180 kB/s around 4 months n has been the same ever since.. i cant seem to understand why this happened?? wat do u think guys?

    1. Mention modem - model and make

    2. Post the screen shot of your modem menu page. Or simply check the data rate mentioned (not attainable rate).

    3. Download any file from Microsoft and report the speed here.

    4. Do you get this speed on torrents or direct download ? Try utorrent for torrent and report the speed. Use a torrent with good seed to peer ratio. Better try a Linux torrent.

    5. Try this guide

http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...onnection.html (How to: get max. speed of a connection)

    6. Complain here
