can my broadband userid and password be used in another telephone ?

For example, say my friend took my userid and password and purchased a ADSL modem from the market and tried to use in his BSNL normal landline telephone . will he be able to connect ? How much secured I am ?

The point is , I would like to know the security of userid and password of BSNL broadband....Can it be connected from other telephone ?

BSNL has introduced port binding. Your username and password will work only from your telephone line.

Port Binding is not set up at all places.

A very crude rule to verify: if your IP is 117.*.*.*, then it is very likely that there is port binding.

    Thank you.

Just a note. An IP address 117.* means that you are most likely to be safe. You can call Bangalore NOC (080 - 25808899) to verify.

Is there any way to differentiate between pre-paid and post-paid connection? fact is -- with a pre-paid user id and password one can connect to internet even if the existing connection is port-binded.

    YES.
( but the existing L/L need not have a Post paid BB connection )
BSNL insists you must have an existing L/L
0r apply for one, before availing Prepaid BB service.
    ( for verification etc ).

Prepaid UserID and PW can be used ANYWHERE
In India through a BSNL Landline.
( similar to sancharnet dial up internet connection )

Post paid BB connection only from concerned L/L ( Like NETONE dialup
    Internet connection )
