    Default Need help in setting up BSNL smartAX MT882 with linksys WRT54G2 router

    Hi All,

    I have a smartAXMT882 modem with linksys WRT54G2 wifi router. Running the wizard and trying to configuring did not help.

    I went through a thread with some guidelines for the setup, but not sure which one to follow. Also, I heard people with dynamic IP address cannot have a network with internet sharing. but the thread says it can be shared.

    Please help if somebody has already tried this successfully. I am using the home 750 unlimited plan.

    Early response is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    FaceOFF

    @faceoff
    smartAXMT882 modem with linksys WRT54G2 wifi router
    Yes.
    When you enable DHCP in mT882
    a "Pseudo Static IP" like 192.168.1.3
    is allotted to your desktop
    and 192.168.1.4 to lap top etc.
    Dynamic IP changes does not matter.

    Check this now:
    Start RUn type cmd Ok
    New window
    Type ipconfig /all

    Unhappy

    Thanks! atleast i can breathe easy.

    I was following this tutorial on one of the thread

    "However, all of a sudden, I figured out another way to sync between Huawei SmartAX MT882 and Linksys WRT54G (v7.0)...

    Here is a step by step approach (and forgive my bad english)...

    1. RESET Linksys Router WRT54G by pressing the reset button for at least 20 seconds.

    2. After reset switch it off... for 30 secs.

    3. In the mean time, one thing I presume that the SmartAX MT882 has already been configured in PPPoE mode...

    4. Power on the WRT54G only with the connection between ur desktop/laptop and the router itself. No other connections as of now...

    5. Open any browser, type 192.168.1.1 and u will be directed to the web-page based setup of WRT54G.

    6. In the Basic SetUp, go to "Local IP address". Change it to 192.168.2.1

    7. U may also change the time zone (though not mandatory). Click "Save settings".

    8. The browser page will show "Save successful. Release/Renew IP". Close the browser.

    9. Open the command prompt (Start - Run - cmd)

    10. type ipconfig /release and it will show something like this:
    IP address: 0.0.0.0
    Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
    Default gateway: {it's blank}

    11. type ipconfig /renew and it will show something like this:
    IP address: 192.168.2.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

    12. Close command prompt. Switch off the WRT54G and connect the SmartAX MT882 with the WRT54g on its internet slot (NOT the ETHERNET slot). Switch it on.

    13. Open the browser and type 192.168.2.1

    14. In the WRT54G Setup page, Go to the "MAC Address Clone" sub-tab under the SetUp tab.

    15. Ensure that it is enabled (default is disabled). Now click on the "Clone Your PC's MAC" button. Save settings.

    16. Now, go to Wireless tab and configure as per the following:
    Mode: Mixed
    Wireless Network Name: Any name u want (optional)
    Channel: 1-2.412GHz
    Wireless SSID broadcast: Enable

    Save settings.

    17. Goto Wireless Security sub-tab and configure as per the followings:
    Mode: WEP
    Transmit Key: 1
    WEP Encryption: 64bits - 10 hex digits
    Key 1: combination of alphanumerics (e.g. abcde12345) and the number of digits should be exactly 10.

    Save settings.

    18. Switch off the WRT54G then SmartAX then Desktop.

    19. Power on all the devices (there is no sequence)

    20. In desktop, open command prompt and type
    ping 192.168.1.1 {u shud get positive response}
    ping 192.168.2.2 { -- do -- }
    ping mail.yahoo.com or any website { -- do -- }

    21. If u have laptop, use the wireless connection to log into ur newly created WiFi Network. In the laptop also, after connecting to the WiFi network, do the ping tests described above.

    22. U r ready to go online... Enjoy

    But when i connect my modem the internet slot of the router and try to go the brower i.e 192.168.1.1 , it doesnt connect. i am getting stuck in the 12th step. Also can anybody brief to setup the modem to PPPOE mode. really desperate to connect to internet. I am planning to connect my itouch using wifi.

    Please help

    13th step:

    You have to type 192.168.2.1 to access WRT54G Setup page.
