Exclamation Unable to configure a BELKIN G wireless router with SmartAX MT882 modem

    Hi,

I just came to know about this forum yesterday when I desperately trying to find something regarding the same. Kudos to those who thought of this forum and I think this is an excellent platform to share experience / expertise amongst ever expanding broadband user base. I felt at home when I saw there are several others with similar problem like me and they really got help from others. It actually saves effort to "reinvent the wheel" by sharing experiences or "things to do under similar situation".

I would be grateful to have a solution of my problem which has been depicted below.

I am having a laptop with windows 7 operating system (bought recently). Previous to that I had a desktop without any LAN card. So I used to connect internet through USB connection provided with SmartAX MT882 modem. Transition to laptop was smooth as I didn't have to install Huawei MT882 USB driver and then the PPPoE client. The connect to broadband icon the taskbar made it very simple - just by providing user id and password, I was able to connect to internet. Very recently I decided to go wireless and bought BELKIN G wireless router. While configuring the router, my laptop was the only option as the desktop does not have RJ45 or LAN card through which it happens. The s/w provided with BELKIN just asked 3 inputs from me -
    1. The connection type which I choose as PPPoE
    2. The user id which I provided correctly
    3. The password also provided correctly

After sometime the s/w says "no internet connectivity". I could not remember the exact error as I did it on last Sunday and was disappointed enough to pack it back again for return. But the shopkeeper said I can't return it although he was helpful to guide me to choose a modem + wireless router integrated. I decided not to spend more and solve this problem.

Have anyone experienced such problem earlier and what he/she did to resolve it? I can provide exact error tonight while I would try same setup again.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Bijitesh

Hii Bijitesh, I am also from Kolkata.
Try this settings may it will help you

Set your Huawei MT882 to bridge mode mith VPI/VCI 0/35
or reset your Huawei MT882 it will automatically set to bridge mode with this value. But you have to cheak it.
After setting your Huawei MT882 to bridge mode connect RJ45 cable to your Huawei MT882 LAN port and another point of RJ 45 to your BELKIN G wireless router's WAN port or INTERNET port but donot connect to the LAN port of BELKIN G.
Set your user ID and password and it will connect to your ISP. Remember to enable NAT option in your BELKIN G wireless router.

If you face any troble contact an expert who can setup this connection.

    Cool Successfully connected

    I have gone wireless successfully.

Thanks to Indranil and essbebe for the suggestions. But I could not implement them. I thought of resetting the VPI/VCI to 0/35 as Indranil said and tried to follow the guidance provided at the link BSNL site for SmartAX MT-882 ADSL MODEM MENU [could not post url as my post is less than 15] (option ADSL modem configuration for multiuse). As per the second step, I had to set the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS to the mentioned value. WHile I was able to change the IP address and DNS, could not find the subnet mask and default gateway to set them. I tried to open the url - [/192.168.1.1/] and it could not connect as expected.

Dejected, I thought of doing the same setup that I tried initially (as per the guidance provided with the wireless router) and to my surprise, it worked.

Enjoying the comfort of couch while surfing the net.

    Cheers,

Please tell me the model number. How is the performance of Belkin since people suggest Netgear, Linksys, Dlink, Belkin in that order.

BELKIN is good. I used to use BELKIN modem and wireless G router (combined in a single unit) while my stay at UK and performance was good. There were 4 laptops connected wirelessly to the network and we never experienced any issues except very rare stuck up problem for which I had to power cycle the unit. Back in India, I took suggestions and almost everybody said about netgear, linksys, dlink. Even I went to shop to bye a netgear, but it was not available. The belkin was available and based upon my previous experience, I bought it. It's cool sleek design was another factor

Regarding the speed of the newly setup Belkin at my home, I can say - going wireless didn't affect it. Earlier, with RJ45 LAN cord, I used to get a download speed of 25 - 30 kB/sec (my BB plan is home 750 unlimited). After setting the wireless, I am getting the same speed as earlier.

I'll surely post the router model no for the record.

    Cheers,
    Bijitesh

The model name is written as 802.11 G wireless Router. Nothing else. Some part number is written starting with F and then digits ... I hope that is not the model no.
