No2 . Your speed will increase by 8 times.
    Speed 256 Kbps means 32 KB/sec max
D/L max 1 MB file in approx 30 seconds
    Speed 2Mbps means 256KB/sec
    D/L 1MB file in 4 seconds
    *conditions apply!

    No1.
    Regarding automatic schedulers.
(A)Check your usage at data.bsnl.in with your
14digit usage portal Id PW password
( to be obtained from your Exchange )

(B)Check whether the meter stops starts again at
    0200AM and at 0800AM.

    (C) check speed here.
    http://speed.airtelbroadband.in:81/
    and

    About batch files etc later.
    Feedback.

    Smile BSNL sceduled download

I am on HomeCombo plus (Rs 600/- plan) similar to yous. the max. download speed is 190 Kilobytes per second.

I have automated my downloads by scheduling the system. Keep the system in hybernet mode before going to sleep and schedule the system to wake up at 2.05 AM and again hybernet or shutdown at 7.59AM. The best way to do this is to poweryour modem through USB of the PC. I have fabricated one of my own, so that the modem will boot along with the PC at the scheduled time and shut down at the defined time. My down load/ Upload per day (between 2 - 8 AM) is on an average 4GB.

    All the best.

    @itsmemad
the problem with that software is that i have to keep my pc connected to the net
the software can only reboot the connection
i don't trust these bsnl guys so i won't take a risk and keep my internet connected long before 02.00am
    otherwise that software is excellent

    @ hitler

Yes, I used the same batch file method when I had BSNL a year back... However, the limitation of this method is that it works only in the Bridge Mode. Hence, PPPoE users may prefer using a Software.

If you're using the Bridge Mode, then batch file method is better..

To make it short, PPPoE Mode is required only when you are using multiple Computers to share a single Internet connection.

Bridge mode - You need a dialler to connect to internet.

PPPoE - You can connect to internet by switching ON your modem.
