Angry Packet Loss, TImeouts and HORIIBLE HORRIBLE pings since a few days... anyone else?

is it slow since a few days? particularly in Lucknow?

I am getting horrible pings (around 600-700 ms) to servers where normally I'd get pings upto 170~250 ms. For a particular MTU value some sites are responding and some are not. I couldn't find any value between 1400 and 1500 of MTU for which it would work for several servers. Websites timeout before they open...that happens frequently.

Anyone else having these symptoms recently.

P.S. I am in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and my internet connection works pretty well normally.

taylietaylietaylie this is problem from your Excheange. Not from your side. your screnshot shows good value. Remember Excheange have a leased line. If there is some problem in the bandwidth then you also face the problem. Not only you the others subscriber also face same problem if they are in same Leased line. You can say it temporary disruption.

From your screenshot you are OK from your side and this problem you face should face other users too if they are in same Leased Line.

You can browse your Router GUI page with this address
    http://192.168.1.1/look.html
    add look.html
I think you will fiend the MTU value

Yes, I've been seeing unusually high latency and packet loss, particularly during the night time period (2-8).

It's not a local issue at all, anyone should be seeing this loss for any server in the USA.

Indian/Asian servers give a latency of 40-100ms, now that's fine, obviously.
But UK/EU servers are ~300 ms (normal should be about 200ms)
US servers are about 450-500ms when they are usually a steady 300ms.

It's not a line problem it's probably not even a problem with your exchange.
It's probably BSNL using shitty routing to foreign servers, or traffic somehow getting overloaded, or a fault in the international lines.

I'm not sure what will fix this, but it's extremely frustrating.

The easiest way to check if it's a local problem or not is this :

get a tool like colasoft ping tool, or D3TR, or just use an ordinary ping.

If you see unusually high latencies on hops to foreign server it's NOT a local problem.
If you see high latencies on hops between your computer and a local server it's probably a local problem.

    2. Modem is Siemens SL2_141

I tried to find the adequate MTU value using ping <a website> -f -l xxxx where xxxx represents different values i tried between 1400 to 1500. None of them worked for me. Either the packets needed to be fragmented and when i kept fragmenting them, it would just start timing out.

    3. ipconfig commands didnt help.
