Default Beginner's Guide - Modem selection and troubleshoot

When I first landed on this forum, I was searching for a tutorial to tweak utorrent. I got confused with KBps and Kbps. Never knew that 1 KBps = 8 Kbps. Here is a calculator to avoid the confusion

YOU Broadband & Cable India Private Limited: Leading High Speed Broadband Internet Service provider in India. Super Fast Connection.

Let us check the modem part. For the same plan, BSNL supplies different modems. They vary very much in brand and make. Normally BSNL modems have a good reputation. It is partly due to BSNL's policy to replace damaged modems free of cost. Let us take a look at different BSNL modems for which e support is available. They are UT 300 R (Type 1), UT 300 R2 (Type I), MT 882 (Type I), UT 300 R2U (Type I), C 2110 (type I). WA 1003 A (Type II) ,WA 3002 - g1 (Type II), MT 841 ( Type III), SL2_141 (Type - B), MT 841 (Type IV).

For the above listed modem, tutorials are available. The available options are

    1. How to connect ADSL modem with Phone line and PC ?
    2. How to install USB driver of ADSL modem in the PC ?
    3. How to install the PPPoE client in your PC ?

    4. Download USB driver
    5. Download Windows 98 SE Update patch
    6. Download PPPoE client software

    7. Outlook Express configuration
    8. Microsoft Outlook configuration
    9. ADSL configuration for multi use

    10. How to change password and view internet usage
    11. Broadband troubleshooting.

You can find all these here

    Hi,

Thanks a lot for giving the information about the different brands of modems in use by BSNL.But you have not mentioned the latest one AN1020-21 type II modem issued very recently in Karnataka c ircle. It is manufactured by Vuppalamrita magnetic components pvt ltd, Hyderabad.IT is good but for tghe size.it is much wider than all the other modems so far issued by BSNL.can anyone clarify one doubt for me?this modem's power adapter is rated at 12 v !Amp.But I am using the older adapter rated at 10V 750mA just because there is a LED "power on" indicator on the plug. Will this affect the performance of the modem?even now the conn.spe4ed is 54 mbps. Will there be any problem in the long run?Than ks in advance.
