    Unhappy Problem with modem/router - MT841

    Hello,
I have been using BSNL broadband service for past 5 months. I'm facing a peculiar problem for past 2 weeks. Everytime I switch on my PC, i have to reboot the router to get connected to internet. Some times its not possible to connect to internet. When contacted BSNL they said, its problem with my PC. I wonder how could that be? Though i'm not able to connect to internet, the Sent and recieved bytes in Local Area Network connection Status dialog keeps on increasing.
I'm using MT841 model modem through Ethernet cable and using Windows XP OS.
Is this a problem with modem? or any hardware problem in my system?
I would appreciate if anyone can solve my problem.

    Thanks
    AB

When you say that your connection shows data transfer both ways that confirms that you are connected to the net and only thing that comes to my mind is that you might have got some spyware accidently so try running a spyware scan ( try ad-aware thats what i use) and see if things get sorted.

also, make sure that the Anti virus software is updated.. if you are using AVG.. stop using it.. its not that great as compared to CA or trend micro

    Thanks Admin and roymain.
will try that. One more question is that what is the latest firmware for MT841
is V100R001C01B021SP01 dated July 19 2005. I believe there is latest firmware for this model of modem. But When i update to the latest firmware and in case my modem stops working can i undo the upgrade? I read in some thread that one of the guy faced this problem. Hence I want to take precautionary measures before anything.

    Thanks in Advance
    AB

^ MT841 firmware dated 23 Dec 2005 is reported to be
a stable one . if you upgrade to this version , there will
be no need to revert back to a previous firmware version .

This firmware version is available at present on rapidshare :
    MT841 Firmware Link

on windows XP , you may try to take a backup of
current firmware by using the following command :

    tftp -i 192.168.1.1 GET c:\MT841teimage.bin

if required this backup can be reflashed into MT841

Try changing your DNS and see if that helps.
Do you also get disconnected frequently?

yes you are right, it use to disconnect I think but not all the sites just the same thing, also if I will open rapidshare and other sites it will show the front page and the details of the file I wanted to download but if I will click on the button to download the file again it will show "page can not be displayed". I tried to turn off the default windows firewall but it didnt halped me.
I have a few other BSNL wireless networks around and I tried to connect my system with my neighbours MT841 by asking their natwork key, they are having plan 250 and all the sites are working fine with their modem in my pc, I wonder why, I have 999 home unlimited plan, please help.
ps: how to change the DNS?

Try DNS provided in this thread : http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...onnection.html (Increase Speed of BSNL Broadband connection)

See if that helps. As you said you get disconnected frequently, changing dns will not help you stay connected.

There could be a number of reasong for your disconnection problem.. lets see what happens with the new dns settings first and we sort out your disconnection problem latter..
