Default Beginner's Guide for BSNL Plan Selection

BSNL is one of the most reputed companies in India in the field of broadband. It is available at ever nook and corner and provides high speed at decent rates. Unlike the other Internet Service Providers (ISP), BSNL tries to build the communication infrastructure across the country. BSNL plans are divided into two categories. 1. Domestic Plan and 2. Business Plans. There are a no. of plans available in each category as Post Paid Plans and pre paid plans. Before getting a broadband connection you should first get a land line to your come. If you do not have a land line, it will be installed during the time of broadband installation. You need to pay a small amount for modem and installation. Once you get them, you can surf freely across internet.

There are two types of modem available Type I and Type II. Type I modems do not have wifi facility while later is capable of connection through wifi devices. Type I modem cost Rs. 1000 + tax, Type II modem come for Rs. 1600 + tax. Both are available at montly rent for Rs. 50 and Rs. 80 respectively.

You can select your plans here

    Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

If in doubt, feel free to ask. Generally there are four types of plan

    1. Unlimited plans

    2. Limited plans

    3. Combo plans

Here you need not pay monthly rental for telephone. Useful for users who do not require land line calls.

    4. Night unlimited plans

They include combo plans and Limited plans. You can download as much as you can in these. But the time slot for unlimited download is limited to the time frame 2 - 8 am.

I am planning to changing my plan from 750 UL to Rural USO Combo 550

    Rs.550/-,exclusive of taxes.
    512 Kbps up to 2Mbps,
6 GB download limit, after the limit is crossed,it will be 0.30 paisa or 0.40 paisa (not sure),
    250 free calls a month.
I would like to know why it is 512 Kbps upto 2 Mbps rather than upto 2 Mbps.
I would like to know more about the Rural USO Combo 550 plan and if the change is worth it.

I have been using the 750 UL since 2008.

    Thank you.

    meetdilip,

Why don't you write a generic FAQ/How-to thread when there are about 30 Q's and A's? Just one to three liners and with links/references to other main threads.

please see Post No 3 for different tariff options.
if 2.5GB download during Day time and Nu 02-08AM free is enough
    Home500C+ for Rs 600/=PM
is the best. Check the free telephone calls also.
cost to you Rs 480/PM +taxes.
    Speed usually 100 KB/sec to 200 KB/sec.
    Compared to 750U/L
for same download under ideal conditions
    10 MB download ( 32 KB/sec) will take 8 times more time than Home 500 C+ ( 256 KB/sec )
