Default BSNL Rural Plans - Layman's Review

India is a young country. It is only 60 years since we got our freedom. As a young nation and democracy India has great responsibilities to be answered. Main point being IT infrastructure, government has prompted BSNL to launch rural plans.

    What is rural plan ?

It is a plan with BSNL subsidy for rural broadband customers.

How many plans are there ?

At present, there are two plans.

    Can I get it ?

Quite likely. The plan is for rural customers. There are total of 31 connections per exchange for this scheme. If you are one of the first 31 to apply, you may get a connection.

What are the financial benefits ?

There is no installation charges. Also if you buy a type I modem through BSNL you need not pay for this. Please note that the type I modem does not support wifi. If you buy your laptop or PC through BSNL a total discount of Rs. 4500 is given.

Please give me some details on tariffs and plans

Sure. There are two plans to choose from

    1. Rural USOF 99

You can download up to a speed of 2 Mbps. Monthly limit is 400 MB. It is sufficient for normal home use. If you download more, you need to pay 40 paise per extra MB. Minimum speed is 512 Kbps. Monthly rent is only Rs.99.

    2. Rural USOF 150

You can download up to a speed of 2 Mbps. Monthly limit is 1 GB. It is sufficient for normal home use. If you download more, you need to pay 40 paise per extra MB. Minimum speed is 512 Kbps. Monthly rent is Rs. 150.

    Hope this helped.

Default Conversion from Home500C to Unlimited Combo Plan

My present connection is 500C, but my upload/download limit is 1.5 GB.
I note that BSNL has a new "Unlimited Combo Plan".

The difference is in the speed: My present 500C allows me 250 kpbs upto 2 Mbps. I don't have too much download/upload interest, but I do have a 'Remote desktop' working arrangement. I note that this 'remote desktop' working adds to my download/upload - in about 2 hours, I add around 100 MB. My present plan gives me satisfactory speed to work on 'remote desktop', but my concern is about the 1.5 GB limit, which I will exceed pretty soon.

If I change to the Unlimited Combo Plan (at the same charge I am paying now, i.e. Rs.500 pm + modem rental), my download/upload limit problems will be solved, but I am concerned if I will lose my speed. The Unlimited combo plan says broadband speed will be: 512 Kbps upto 4 GB & 256 Kbps beyond 4 GB. I think I will be able to pass a month within 4 GB.

Please advise. As I understand it, the broadband speed is never constant - even when I have facility "upto 2 mbps", my download/upload speed will never reach that level, but will be in a range from 0 to 500 kbps. In that case, migration to the unlimited plan should not be cause me much problem. Correct me if I am wrong please.

Finally, I am in a rural village in Kerala, connection is through underground cable, the exchange is 3 kms away from my home.

Thanks for your patience and assistance.

You can choose Home 500 C+. It has 2.5 GB limit. I am not aware of any unlimited combo plans for Rs. 500.

As "essbebe" confirmed, the unlimited combo plan is on offer - see essbebe post for the link.

My question is on the speed of 512 kbps upto 4 GB. Would this good enough for my 'remote desktop' work arrangement? I mean, even in my subscribed plan 500C, I don't know if I am getting "256 kbps, upto 2 mbps" speed. So by opting for the 512 kbps limit (in the new unlimited combo plan), will I be compromising on speed, jeopardizing my ability to work well on the remote desktop? This is what is worrying me. Please help. Thanks.

Speed will be lesser in UL plans. You can choose ULF 1100. It gives 2 Mbps up to 10 GB and then 256 kbps. I am using UL 750 now, was able to use team viewer without much problem. But still it is wise to have a 1 Mbps plan. 512 Mbps is a moderate speed for remote connection. If you change to 500 C+, the speed won't decrease. It too has up to 2 Mbps speed. I am not sure whether rural plans are allotted to users. I myself tried without success.

Rural USO Home UL 799 looks good !! 512kbps true unlimited .

    bsnl.co.in/service/uso1.htm

BSNL should now drop plan rates for regular users too.

10GB cap is far from enough for me . I am on 512k UL1350 plan and I download around 55-60 GB every month !!

Youtube and gametrailers eat lots of usage !! 10GB isnt enough in todays time .

Default New plan - BBG FN Combo 600 (for previous 500C+)

Further to my previous post, I am happy to report that BSNL has introduced a new plan which looks much better at higher bandwidth.

Previous plan name: 500C+ (monthly outlay Rs.600/- plus modem rental)
Revised plan name: BBG FN Combo 600 (same outlay as above)

This new plan comes with 250 free calls (against previous 50 free calls) and additional usage is at Rs.0.50 per MB (against previous Rs.0.80 per MB).

    Happy browsing.

    1.
    Suggestion ;
    Please delete your email ID
    2
    :Option;
Apply with the certificate from your office: concession will be effective from May 1st.
Enough time for your CC/Accounts Officer, to refer the matter to higher authorities.
    3.
    Info:
Earlier some BSNL refused to give 20% discount to those Govt employees who opt for annual plan.
Then a clarification was issued . that 20% is applicatble to all tariff plans monthly or annual.
The tariff plans page lists the conditions in the bottom of the page.
Rural Tariff plans are are also meant to be given 20% discount.

    4. FEEDBACK
    Try and give feedback.
If refused to you, also give feedback.

    PS:
This forum is not connected to BSNL in any way.

Default 20%-Discount for Rural Broadband Users for back-dated broadband bills?

I got my rural RURAL USOF-150 broadband plan in Dec.2009 and later changed it to RURAL USOF COMBO 250 PLAN with Annual Discounted payment option from 01.02.2010. Now can I claim the 20%-discount in the broadband bills w.e.f. Dec.2009? Kindly clarify the same.

    Doubtful.
Any application for 20% discount will be effective from 1st of next month of application.
Assume you disconnect the BB connection now.
3 (Three Feb/March/Aprilmonths) at regular Monthly rates will be deducted from the annual payment made. say
    A minus M*3
Then the balance is returned to you. say R
Same way , assuming you are making an annual discount payment now in May 1st you will get the benefit. and effective 5/2010 to 4 /2011.
    A minus M*3= R
New annual Payment NP discount 20%
    NP x 1/5 NP = F
    F minus R =N ( now new payment on May 1st !)
    Check with A.O ( BSNL)
Formula will satisfy the BSNL auditors !!!!!

Default 20%-Discount for Rural Broadband Users for back-dated broadband bills?

I have paid Rs.2500/- as the annual discounted amount for the Rural USOF Combo 250 plan from 01.02.2010 to 31.01.2011. But I did not apply for 20% discount at that time and I applied for the same later (i.e) in Apr.2010 only. Then I asked for 20% discount for the past bills. I sent e-mails to the Accounts Officer, Chennai Telephones 2-times. But no favourable reply. Then I sent an e-mail to BSNL Hqrs. , New Delhi. Then I got a discount of Rs.460/- from 01.04.2010 to 31.01.2010.

Now I have another doubt. (i.e) if a person changes from any existing normal broadband plan to the Rural Broadband plan, how the modem charges would be adjusted for them? Because, as per the BSNL website, modem charges are free for the Rural Broadband plan. Anybody knows the same, please reply.

By the way, since I applied for the Rural broadband for the first time (i.e) I was not having any other broadband plan, I got the modem charges adjusted in the later bills(Rs.1600+64). Thanks.
