    @Sherinkapotein
For not able to browsing the net cheak the step below
Do you setup your LAN IP by manual in your LAN properties, if so set it to Auto assign IP address and DNS address. Your Router Dlink 2640T support DHCP. Before setup the Auto assign IP address and DNS address go to your router's GUI web interface and check the DHCP is enable or not and also check the DNS set to auto.

Now go to WAN interface and check Default Route and NAT both should be enable.

    For unstable adsl light
Go to Advanced - ADSL and select ADSL (ITU G 992.1)
then click apply now go to Tools - System click Save and Reboot.

    @Sherinkapotein
Your Lan TCP/IP dont get the gateway IP address.
    put manually the IP address

Go to your Ethernet LAN Adapter of Broadcom NetLink
    then TCP/IP properties in IPV4
put the IP address like below

    IP 192.168.1.2
    subnet musk 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 192.168.1.1

    Preferred DNS 192.168.1.1

Before settings the above step first go to your Router's GUI Web pages and go to
    Home - DNS
in DNS Configuration pages select Use Auto Discovered DNS Server Only
in DNS Relay Selection. If the above option is not selected then select it and save/reboot the router.

^^^ did you try to manually setup the IP address to your LAN connection
If you do this and still you cant access to the internet and in your router all option and setup in correct place then I think your problem not possible to troubleshoot from forum. You need to cal an expert.

1.You seem to have Vista O.S
    2.
    Start network LAN
    Properties
    Network settings page opens
    uncheck IPV6
    select TCP/IP
    properties
    In DNS enter
    8.8.8.8
    and 208.67.220.220
    Apply Save.
    3.
You seem to use a Dialer mode
    But screenshot (1)shows PPPoE.

Did you enter your UserID and PW
    in modem WAN page ?
    4.
I have the manual for your router and
will check any minor tweak required depending on your feedback.
    5.
Check in router a page showing SNR/Attn
    Poweroutput Line speed etc.
    give details or screenshot.
    Link: give as it is
just omit http from the link.

    Feedback.

Though miraculously , Its now connecting to the internet(wired mode).I didnt change even a setting .As soon as i read ur post i connected the router to my Laptop(vista 64 bit)
but towards th e next step i.e to connect it wirelessly my system is not even detecting SSID by its name stored in router during config.
    screen shot

    postimg.com/image/12000/11323.jpg

I cant understand as to what could have changed the state of affairs, that it now is connecting to net..but then it(router) automatically connects to internet without asking for permission..

    Theres an option saying :
Use Connect/Disconnect button in Status/Device Info page only .
but I dont want to use it either....as connecting everytime from router gui is not feasible..is there a windows setting to it?

Thanks for all ur help so far .U guys 've been exceptionally great..

Have you created a Wireless LAN for your laptop?
    Start All programs/Accessories/communications/Wireless Network Wizard.
    Follow instructions.
The the WLAN icon will appear in network connections.
    Then
    Network /WLAN
    Properties
    Wireless network settings
    Properties
    Disable/UncheckIPV6 box
    Select TCP/IP
    properties
    obtain Ip address automatically.
    DNS 8.8.8.8 and 208.67.220.220
    ( or existing entries )

    Check the top Box
wireless lan card details will be shown
    configure.
    check enabled.
    Advanced : select SSID
    apply save.
    try now.
Your WIFI "Dlink" name should appear in laptop.
