    Default Should I?

I know that I have to change the password of the modem that is at 192.168.1.1 page from its default value admin to something else.
Should I also change the broadband connection password which I supply along with the portal ID?

It is nice to change. But don't attempt if you are prone to forgetting password.

    @Vignesh Iyers
Depends. If you are on an Unsecured WIFI mode, your modem settings can be accessed.

Users tend to forget the changed PW for the modem, and then forced to RESET to factory settings viz admin admin.
Better make a backup / Save present settings of modem to say C:/My Documents/Modem settings feb 14th.

2.Your BSNL User ID PW (1)
    Usage portal 14digitID PW password(2)
    Email @ bsnl.in emailid PW (3)
    ( Obtain (2) and (3) from Exchange
If you system is accessed by others, and if you want to allow them, keep the PW (1) secret.
On line, accessing your system and hacking
it are remote , even if you divulge set (1)

yes you can change the ADSL modem login password by login in to 192.168.1.1
    9modem page)
and you can change your service user id password and portal id password by login in to bsnl portal using your portal id

    bsnl provides port binding
(your user id with your telephone) so changing the password is not must

I decided to backup / Save present settings of modem to a safe place and change only the modem's password not the one with which we connect. I am pretty sure that I am not going to forget the password
