Exclamation BEWARE!!! of new BSNL "Unlimited" plans jan 2010

    Hi readers, Iam from chennai.

I have been using BSNL broadband for almost 3 years under HOME UNLIMITED 1350 plan at 512kbps.

I didnt had any issues with that except some annoying technical issues which leads often break-down in my connection. I call customer care after two or three days they would call me and reset the port in their exchange. This Happens for once in every month.

ON Jan 10, 2010 BSNL announced "WORLD'S WEIRDEST PLANS" As advertisement on "THE HINDU"

1 MBPS "UNLIMITED" at INR 1499/-

I thought already i was paying 1350 rs for 512kbps and if I add another rs. 150/- i would get doubled the current bandwidth.

Immediately I went to my nearest BSNL customer care center and enquired
plan details. The customer care agent assured me that it is an UNLIMITED plan at 1mbps speed. As the brouchers of plan details were not availabe in that center, I had no other options instead of trusting that gentleman . i Subscribed to 1mbps UNLIMITED plan.

On feb 1, 2010 this plan came into effect. Speed was well enough for download. To my surprise within 5 days my speed dropped down to 256 kbps from 1 MBPS. I immediately raised a complaint in "1500" customer care and even contacted my area BSNL junior Engineer for help. On feb 16 2010 I received a call from bsnl that my plan is 1 MBPS UNLIMITED but if i cross 25GB download my bandwidth will change from 1MBPS to 256 kbps. This came as a shock to me.

    NOTE:-
    1) This is not 1MBPS UNLIMITED plan. Your download is limited to 25gb per month and if u cross that limit your bandwidth will change from 1 mbps to 256 kbps. my question is if there is a limit of 25 GB then why the hell BSNL falsely advertising as 1mbps unlimited .

    2) Customer care in BSNL is just to fool people. People in customer care dosent have any product knowledge and recent plan updates.

    3) I work at a BPO supporting an ISP abroad, even i got fooled by BSNL and what about common man.

    4) If there is a 25 gb limit they should have informed me when I enquired about the plan at the time of plan change.

    5) For browsing 256 kbps is more than enough, speed always matters for heavy down-loaders like me, if I was told that there is a 25Gb limit I would have never minded even considering to change my previous plan(512 kbps unlimited at rs 1350/-)

I've been a loyal customer to BSNL always, But today I feel that I've been terribly CHEATED by BSNL. Never trust anyone

BEWARE Of BSNL new UNLIMITED plans...it is just to fool you.

Really sorry to hear this. Please be regular at this site, we normally discuss these kind of loop holes when a plan is launched. This issue of Fair Usage Policy has been discussed many times here.

Feel sorry for you mate. But being a BPO employee in ISP support, you should have heard of FUP and also you should have known about the tricks these ISP uses to lure customers . Allways be skeptical of unlimited plans, you learnt the lesson the hard way .

    There is no plan
    "1Mbps unlimited ' for Rs 1499
    from BSNL.
In this plan it is clearly specified about speed.

Maybe they advertised as unlimited in newspaper which the OP believed. He should have missed out "THE STAR" in the advert .

Refer BSNL Advertisment In "THE HINDU" newspaper chennai edition dated Jan 10, 2010.
They stated "1 MBPS unlimited plan at 1499/-" along with 512kbps and 2 mbps plans. This issue raised as they failed to mention that there is a limit of 25GB usage. If they wd hve mentioned it on thir add or atleast wen they informed me at the time of migrating I would hve reviewed my decision. They failed to do that whic caused to the raise of this issue.

Do you want to say what BSNL did is right?...is this not misleading? Now you tell, is it important to mention 25gb usage limit on their adds or not.

Why did customer care agent didnt mention about such limits when asked about "UNLIMITED" plan repedeatly by me??? is that his duty to mention or explain the plans to customer or not????
Just think on a customer's point of view - A customers notices a add on newspaper which says "1 MBPS Unlimited download at rs 1499/-" he goes to customercare to double check the plan details . every one says its 1mbps Unlimited... will the customer trust the add or not..is there any thing to worry about?? How will the customer know that there is 25GB limit??

at shanmumanoj - if there was a star and to clarify, what the star was about to customer care, still they would have never mentioned about the 25GB limit....any way what i lost is lost..the main idea to post here is to make everybody else to be aware of such plans...ESPECIALY NOT TO TRUST BSNL CUSTOMER CARE AS THEY ARE INEFFICIENT AND KNOWLEDGELESS ABOUT THIR OWN PRODUCTS AND PLANS!!!

What BSNL did is absolutely wrong. Most members here are victims of such dim witted decision by BSNL. I just applied for a plan in the website and BSNL said there is no such plan. It is very kind of you post this here. This is how I became regular at this site. Please follow the BSNL section here and avoid surprises.

This is not specific to BSNL alone. Every ISP is doing the same. Recently i changed from BSNL 1350 to Airtel 1299 plan. I know from forums that there is a limit of 100 Gb in the airtel plan, but when i asked the airtel rep regd the plan he never mentioned a word about Fup. Only after i asked him " if there is a 100 Gb limit in this " he confirmed there is a limit. For your info, Airtel website also doesn't mention the limit So i guess BSNL is better compared to Airtel in this case.

i just dont understand, how you dont know about any of this if ur are a heavy inernet user and an BPO employee supporting an ISP.

    @ essbebe ,
To revert back, he will have to pay a months fee again as deposit.

What is shown in Advt/s TV commercials, FM Broadcast etc are meant to elicit a response from the customer/viewer..
Nobody believes that you will have a fairer skin within 15 days using a fairness cream, or
when you use a mint toffee, girls will fall for you instantly.!
    always look for

    *CONDITIONS APPLY

An advertisement can say "free eye test " if you cannot read this. When you go to the shop, you will be asked to buy a spectacle for Rs 1500/= or so, with fancy frames !
Or recent LCD TV advts show "in exchange" in small letters at bottom of the advt. You will learn about it only when you visit the dealer !

Say you are offered a free Cellphone, but the condition will be you cannot switch provider within one or two years without incurring heavy penalties.

    so caveat emptor

I accept that Adds and tv commercials are to fool people...but what about customer care my friend?????

so, even customer care is also to fool people... my point is ... if i had changed the plan solely on believing newspaper add then what you say is correct, but here this is not the case... i went all the way to clarify their add and my disappointment is the customer care agent didnt had adequate knowlodge about the product(which i came to know later). He mis led me saying 1 mbps ulimited...i repeadetly asked him is it UNLIMITED (stressing the word). dont you think it is his responsibility to mention 25 gb limit or not??? what you say????

This is not a unique case man. You can see representatives of every telecom and baking companies just saying anything to get you onboard and buy the products they sell. Only after using them, we will know about the hidden clauses.

    Javedscircle,

BSNL is cheating india, visit my posted new thread. What was your speed
in your older plan did you used to have 512kps or less some time or all the time?
    let me know.

    Ashoka
    .

    Javerscircle,

It is very bad expierence, PSU like BSNL is cheating in many ways. earlier they used to take average billing method for free hours, where your billing will take rate of start of connetion before free hours including your free hours. BSNL might have made billions out of it.

Take your case to consumer court, you will get reprieve.

What was the Actual speed during your present and old plans(1Mbps and 512Kbps)

QoS is lacking with BSNL and even with other ISP.

BTW when I used 1499 ULF plan during january 2010, Till 30th january, the usage record showed below 25 MB (I used around 24 GB gb till then), but usually BSNL do not record 31st day of any month, I got the same speed after crossing 25 gb and managed to download atleast 5 gb on 31st january (Sunday) with 1 mbps speed, I wondered if BSNL line got problem or something, but when I checked next day, 31st january record was not shown in USAGE detail, what a lucky

Looks like BSNL is cheating itself

I do not know the exact reason about how did that happen but It was really true experience, believe me.

Right now, I am not using 1499 ULF plan but 256 kbps UL plan for temporary use for some months.

    Scorpio,

Till Feb 2010 BSNL was cheating self and customers its used take average usage in total net connected duration. night freetime you are charged for if connection was started before 2am, and it would take morning usage after 8am as free nighttime.

this feb they have corrected, only after grandly looting customers(in billions per annum) I have paid Rs2000 extra usage even taken care to restrict my download to freetimes.

    Hi,

I think they've solved that problem of then need to reboot the modem. Even though i reboot the modem before 8AM, the usage details still show the usage as 0MB from time of reboot to 8.00AM and the usage from 8.00 shows as charged.

BUT, NEVER TRUST IT TOTALLY. I STILL REBOOT MY MODEM EVERYDAY WITHOUT FAIL.

Rebooting the modem is something as customers we have to understand, and know. They (BSNL), can't take care of everything, and probably they have now, but it is the responsibility of us to know the pros and cons and adapt ourselves to it. It is very sad that they are not giving adequate information regarding these things (they can easily give us a startup guide of these things) when we get a brand new connection. There are some documents in specific exchange websites but none on the whole regarding these catches of using a BB connection.
