    Default Modem purchase Vs Rent

    Hi,

I have type-1 modem which i've taken on rent from BSNL but i want to know whether is it better to purchase it outright or rent it. I have already paid the modem deposit and now paying the rent for it. I think it has taxes on rental too.

So now if i want to purchase it, what is the way to do it? I've already paid the rental since 3 months. Is there any provision where i get the modem free after X number of months of paying rental?

You need to pay the outstanding bills. Talk to your customer care. Its possible.

see the FAQ 45 for Broadband
You can own it and 50% of rental paid will be reduced from total cost ( + modem security deposit). No exchange possible.

    Thanks.........

The faq section in BSNL website is dead........ Its just showing some script code....

But i will talk to customer care, even if it is misleading

I think i'd read many months ago, that after 24 months of broadband use, we get to keep the modem. Can u enlighten me on that? I'm sure i read it somewhere, can't remember where...

Jeeez thanks, so i have two options. Here, for readers' help:

"I am on Monthly Rental Scheme for the Modem and decide to opt for outright purchase of modem, what amount shall be charged from me?
Option 1: If you want to continue with the existing modem, 50% of the amount already paid as monthly rentals can be adjusted in the Sale Price of modem.
Option 2: If you want a new modem, Full amount will be charged as per Prevailing Price for the new Modem and the Old Modem is to be returned in working condition."

I think 2nd option is for those, who want to shift to type-2/type-1 or something and vice versa. It was almost foolish from me, to pay one month deposit for modem and keep on paying rental and taxes, instead of buying it for 1000/-. Now, i have to check whether they will adjust the modem deposit against the purchase price. Thanks essbebe!!

Modem deposit is 500Rs and rental of modem is Rs50/-. So, anyone applying freshly, better to buy it outright at 1000/- rs or so rather than pay that 500Rs deposit and keep paying rentals!!

But i still can't let go of the fact that i read somewhere that "After so-and-so months of paying rentals, the modem will be given free to the customer." Will enquire that with customercare.

One more thing, just curious, if modem fails during the rental period, will they replace it free of cost? If they do, then it is the only incentive in taking it on rental. Pls confirm this, anyone?
