Default bsnl night unlimited scam !!!!!!

    hi,

i've been a dataone customer for 4 years now .. right now am on 500+ plan ..
and i had this doubt for a long time ..........

as everybody knows Bsnl "night unlimited" does not get activated if you dont restart @ 2 am .... if thats the case ... the night unlimited should continue even if we dont disconnect at 8 am ......

i mean IF the modem is required to be restarted for night unlimited to start .. the same modem should be restarted again ... for the night unlimited to end right ???

if bsnl can setup a system by which night unlimited ends at 8 am .. why cant they modify it so .. that night unlimited automatically starts at 2 am ???

Agreed with that but I doubt if you don't need to restart your modem inorder to end NU. Its been a while since they have been one of the major distributors of broadband in India, they should have updated their lame usage meter awhile back! It's not like they're lacking funds to do it

They tried to do it. But it became worse. Users got usage on 20 th as early as 10 th. So they rolled back to the old one.

Many have reported break at 0200AM to transfer to free usage count.
sometimes depends when the D/L started.
Trying to reduce the time margin to 15 minutes, ( earlier it was 30 minutes block mostly). Users start download at 0755 and stop at 0823 /0825 and meter will show 0 UNITS. Now this "Bonus"gone !

They should have tested it first in a remote rural location with very few users, that way they would have know whether the new system was functioning properly before implementing it on a wider scale.
It makes one think about what if the new system had worked, then they would have lost a lot of $$$$ that they get from users that are unaware of the current meter problems & most people would be shifting to the NU combo plans since the rent is low & speed is high compared to the Unlimited Plans they offer(especially those that browse less & download stuff alot).
The way the employees at their centers react & work are also not appreciable at times. If they can launch a 3G network in India & also WiMax then they sure can invest some time & funds in improving their Broadband's technical stuff to international standards as well.
Oh well, hope they improve someday...

    1.
Are you on old Ip 59.xx.xx.xxwith ID @ dataone.in?
So far no/few complaints about old usage portal 59.xx.xx.xx

If not check in data.bsnl.in without
    scheduler a test download .
modem off at 0130AM or earlier.
restart at 0155A.M switch off at say 0240A.M .
    check usage breakup next day.
or REstart modem at 0745A.M end at 0830.A.M

    2.
Another way to try : to avoid this problem:
Use a PCI card ADSL modem in the Desktop.

or the USB port of desktop/laptop computer .
Presumed, when system in Standby, modem
also will not get supply from USB port. Not tried.
    Mention your modem/model/make.
    Feedback .

    Cool

It's been quite a while since BSNL has revised its plans. It would be better if they upgrade the Rs. 750 Unlimited 256Kbps to 1 Mbps and Rs. 1350 Unlimted 512 Kbps to 2 Mbps. I'm sure lot of users will abandon the Night Unlimited Plan. Hence, no headaches for users and BSNL customer care.

That's the reason I am in UL plan. Got huge bills for Home 250. Now even if I pay 750 + tax, there is peace of mind. It is foolish to expect some warning from BSNL. Their executives have absolutely no knowledge about various plans. Last month I tried to switch to and USO funded rural plan, in return they said such plan do not exists and cancelled my application.

I agree. It is high time they should give new plans. At least at the rate of BSNL Mumbai. Their plans are much cheaper than BSNL.

i used to exploited this. i could use night unlimited till 8:27 am.
    the thing i do is
2:05 am restart modem(or disconnect and connect again if it's bridge mode)
    2:06 am start downloads(torrents)

7:57 am restart modem(or disconnect and connect again)
8:26 am restart or switch off the modem and close downloads(torrents).

i used this method from march 2008
this scheme worked till jan 2009( maybe longer i don't know)

but it's not that much use. u could download say 400-500 MB during that time.
i used it when i was desparate to finish a download.

i stopped downloading after i shifted my house in jan 2009. since my new home is far away from college i leave home by 7:30 am itself so i'll will shut down pc at 7:20 am.

but i tried it again in may june 2009(holidays) but it didn't work. so probably bsnl changed it's calculating method or something.

now if u download from say 7:40 am to 8:20 am without any restart modem the download till 8 am will come under night unlimited and after 8 am will be charged. so probably u won't need to restart modem nowadays. but i'm not sure since i'm not actively involved in downloading nowadays (an easier way is to get it from ur friends).
