Question bsnl WA3002G4 router wep encryption

    Hi

I am a newbie here.I took bsnl ul750 a couple of months ago.The engineer who came to set the modem up told me that no password is required to connect since he had stored the password in the modem.
Recently i found out that some others are accesing my wireless signal. After studying some forums in the site i came to know about the wep encryption, but before i try it out i have some questions.
1.In the router menu it is asking for things like 'network authentication'(the options are open,shared,wpa,802.1x e.t.c),'current network key(here the options are 1,2,3,4)' and do i have to enter all 4 network keys.
2.After encrypting do i need to enter the username and passwd to connect to my wireless signal.

I know you get a lot of questions like this, but please help me.

Default Is mac filter only sufficient?

    Hi

I have read your post(very informative) and it has cleared almost everything. But i got another question.
suppose if i do not enable the wpa encryption and just setup the mac filter
    can others access my signal?

    NO. Additional protection.
But a security key is always advisable.

    Thanks mate

The reason why i do not prefer an encryption is that i usually start big downloads in torents and go to work, but if there is a momentary power cut nobody is available to manually connect to the modem again.

Anyway I just setup the mac filter just now.

    once again,thank you

    Please reposition the WIFI router.
Keep the unit Parallel to ground , so that the antenna is also parallel. This works like a directional antenna and you can
prevent WIFI signals being intercepted by reorienting the unit.
    Check with your own laptop
signal strength in different locations in your house.
