    Default Very Frequent disconnection

    I am receiving frequent disconnections.

Almost DSL gone when i open more than 2 tabs.

The SNR Values and Line Attenuation

    SNR Margin (dB): 6.0 6.9
    Attenuation (dB): 41.0 46.1
    I tried to:
-Shorten the wire(cut it where there was joint and took the extra part and joint the wires)

    -Making the wires straight.

Any help???I wana avoid line change as it is only the last opition.

Better seek help from the line man. With this kind of SNR and attenuation there is not much hope to deal it in the software side.

Same problem with me...........i know what will happen next.......the wireman will check and say everything is fine on their end...........still it will continue to disconnect as usual..........

I registered here today to solve that problem only............

One of my friends had this problem...........then he says that they changed the PORT from main exchange..........then only it got solved for him.

Here is the Post of my friend.....

    Hi Raja

Very sorry to know that you too are now facing the same problem.
I kept on insisting them that I am facing a lot of problem and I have checked and rechecked everything at my end and there for you need to solve this problem somehow. Ultimately they got my port changed from the main exchange and my internet started to work smoothly on the same day. My net just used to disconnect once after every six hours and then automatically connect in one minute and then keep on running smoothly for the next six hours and so on.

I was very happy with it, but this lasted only for 2 days and on the third day I again started to have the disconnections, although it was not as much as it was in the begining. But last night my hard disc has got some major error and I am trying to find a solution to the hard disc issue. Once it gets sort then again I will monitor my internet status if it is working fine now or not.

So to cut the whole story short... my broadband worked correctly for 2 days once they changed THE PORT from main exchange. Then they said that there was some problem in my port itself and now I should not face disconnection problem. You may tell this thing to the BSNL guys, and let us see what they do then..

    all the best

    Mention the modem model make/number.
    Post SNR ATTN data
Any additional phones being used in other rooms?.

Default Frequent night time BSNL broadband disconnection

I am too experiencing too many night time disconnections (unbelievably 10-20 times during an hour!! disconnections/restart during the night 9 pm to 11 pm).

I have reported this to BSNL and though they say my connection port at the exchange has been changed, I don't seem to have any reprieve.

My location: Kerala - Palakkad District - Cherpulassery (rural village).
    My modem: UT300R2U (STARCOM).

I have read about SNR and attenuation etc. and following the procedure listed by deep.m obtained the required data, which are given below.

The above statistics are for the early morning time (8 AM) today and not sure if this will change when I have frequent disconnections during night. (I intend to see that in the night today....).

Can you tell me what could be the problem? I read elsewhere that it could be a 'port' problem at the exchange, but you know the BSNL guys, it is extremely difficult to get one who listens to you properly. May be arming me with a proper solution and approaching them with that might help me get away from this problem.

Having said that, otherwise my BSNL broadband is excellent (and I am in a rural village where only BNSL provides cable broadband!!!) during day time. Even few city folks who have had opportunity to work on my PC were surprised at the speed I am getting and from what they tell me, it is much better! So I should be happy. Yet, I am not because of the night time problems and I need to regularly login between 9 pm to 12 pm for work on a remote desktop arrangement for my employer in Australia.

Addl info: I am on Windows 7. My broadband properties shows two TCP/IP, i.e. Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). As suggested by exchange, I have changed the DNS server numbers (from 'obtain automatically' to specific numbers), but changing from 'obtain automatically' for the IP address is causing my modem to disconnect immediately after dialling, so my present configuration is: IP address - obtain automatically, but DNS servers changed to suggested server numbers. (And I was able to make this change only in the TCP/IPv4. TCP/IPv6 has slightly different config details (e.g. subnet prefix length..)

Any help you can provide will be highly appreciated. (Though too many people have similar complaints, by the number of complaints I see in the forum, but apparently no foolproof solution yet! - perhaps each problem is unique...)
    Thanks.

@knvn Watch out for cracks or fissures on the incoming telephone line. In simpler terms, please ensure that this incoming line is perfectly defect free. You can ask them to replace it, if viable - this will be done free of cost. Likewise, the primary telephone line must be connected to the modem at first (via the splitter). Taking the connection from a parallel telephone port is a strict no-no.

And how do I do that? (I am a layman user without knowledge in tweaks! sorry about that...).
Hope by doing that I will not disable/jeopardize my connection....
    Thanks.

Ask the line man to check your line for joints and parts without insulation. Make sure that the line condition is good when he leaves.
