    Unhappy DNA-A211-l modem/router

    I have a DNA-A211-l modem/router

it's adapter is giving me nightmares
can anyone say which is better

The above moedm or UTstar or
something else can i hear some experiences it will also be fine
the bsnl wala's came to my house changed a lot of settings i had set like pppoe config.s and bridging etc...... and replaced it to orginal

i had updated my modem's software so as to enable the NAT facility now it's gone what to do also they have asked me to take the adapter there
    what should i do?

also i get very slow speeds(up speeds are a lot faster than my down speeds)
    around 20-25kbps instead of 32-33 (256 kbps)

contribution's from anyone is and will be greatly appreciated

I haven't used that modem+router so I can't be specific, but, out of general knowledge I can share something that might come handy to you.

I'm not much sure about router adapter thingy, so at that point I guess as a whole your modem+router is not giving desired performance. In many situation firmware upgrade is a very good solution and it appears that you've already done that step. If after upgrading the firmware, the performance of your modem+router has become worse then definitely there's some mistake either choosing the right firmware or in firmware upgrading process. Please keep in mind that choosing the wrong firmware may fail your hardware permanently. If after successful firmware upgrade you aren't getting desired performance, you may want to post some config. info. of your modem+router so someone can diagnose that.

In response to your alternate modem+router query, I've two BSNL provided Nokia Siemens, one Netgear, one D-Link and one Linksys modem+router (I keep 5 different hardware just to make a fail-safe system, may be little weird). If cost of hardware is not an issue for you then Linksys is the best among them. Rest are almost at per. Though I face a big transport issue with D-Link one. Few of my frequently visited websites (like boxofficemojo) always stuck forever just after resolving the domain. But I guess the fault is with that specific piece, and since I almost never use that one so I've never bothered to send it for warranty.

i had updated my modem's software so as to enable the NAT facility now it's gone
    2.
If you are using dialer mode under
Advanced Options Nat Virtual server/ Port triggering menu items will be blocked.
    Only DMZ option.
Change over to PPPoE always on mode.
    3.
    had updated my modem's software
Presume you updated from sem website.
Post as jpg annexure the Device info.

Select "Go Advanced ' in your post and scroll down and choose Manage attachements.
    4.
it's adapter is giving me nightmares
If you mention the Ratings marked on the
power adapter suitable substitute can be suggested. Power output say 12V 1 AMP
    DC plug Inner +ve etc.
Better get it exchanged at BSNL first.
    5.
Also post Statistics/ ADSL data page.
    6.

See this thread for full details for set up etc . please go through all the posts.

    http://192.168.1.1/scvrtsrv.cmd?action=view virtual server

    1.
follow this link for PPPoE connection screen shots given.
Chennai Telephones- Changing password in DataOne Pre-configured modem
( Listed in WA3002-g4 quick reference guide)
    2.
    For Xp OS.
    Copy/Paste data here ipconfig /all
    3.
If you got connected in "bridged" dialup mode in XP
It will work in PPp/PPoE "always On Mode "
    4.
If you want to try another modem mention make /model/number.

    5. Also confirm , whether you are struggling since Jan 1st 2010 (UBUNTU forum 51 posts ) to connect in LAN mode or WIFI mode !
    6.
Do not attempt any software update for DNA A211-I NOW , given in link(sem) .

    Model no: DNA A-211-I

    4 eth + 1 wifi 802.11g + ADSL2+ Router

Currently i am not worried about wireless but i am sure it works
does pppoe depend on some harware in the router so is it plain softwr

mostly in pppoe i can connect to router but not any further(webpage not found standard 404 error)
along with that i am also facing passwd problems
it says invalid username/pass even after giving correct input.
after 3-4 tries it says the remote computer didnot respond

and the next time it connected properly!

seems to me that you are not following the settings shown in the link given by me, or not saving the settings by going to management . SAVE reboot.
Did you follow all the 15 steps for LAN connection ?

You are now in dialer "bridged" mode to connect
( userID PW entered in computer window )
    select
PPP/PPPoE mode ( Selected in WAn page )
UserId without @ bsnl.in and PW entered in next page).

    Para two :
If your browser is IE select Internet options
connectivity , and select never dial a connection.
    Para three ::
Ipconfig /all shows you are still using dialer mode.
Do not click the shortcut to dialer in desktop.
If PPPoE ( "always On" )settings are correct Internet will be connected automatically.

whatever the mode you use, you essentially use PPP. because BSNL servers are setup in that way. PPPoE stands for (P)oint to (P)oint (P)rotocol (o)ver (E)thernet. you're being able to connect to internet through bridge mode means, your modem runs the PPP dialer internally and routes the internet data to your ethernet by bridging those two networks. it'd be very unusual that your both the OS are corrupted thus not being able to establish PPPoE connection. instead it's very likely your modem is being unable to handle those requests. so you might want to update the firmware of your modem or buy a new one. but before doing that ask BSNL to fix the problem for you. if the modem has been given by BSNL insist them to testing internet with you modem by creating OS based dialer. that'd make you certain about where the actual problem is.

    Default resolved

adapter problem resolved since i cut the plugs and resoldered it with brand new sockets. drilled extra holes so that it may remain cool.

about pppoe the mistake i was making is on the 1st page i was directed to deleted all setting and create new with VPI/VCi 0/35

but better to keep it as it is and if deleted factory reset
then just change it from bridge to pppoe with some ip changes u must be done can't elaborate what i did but it's done now . please spread this msg.

Thank you guys for your unflinching support.
