    Welcome to IBF

Do you mean that you need setting to connect internet in Windows 7 ?

    Please mention,

The mode you are using to connect to internet. Is it Bridge (using a dialer) or PPPoE (Also know an as Always ON). In PPPoE ID and password is stored in the modem. You can connect to internet just by switching ON the modem.

Still to mention, Connection mode - Bridge or PPPoE ?

If in PPPoE, no need to do any setting after installing Windows 7. It will be automatically detected as LAN. In Bridge mode all you need to do is create a dialler from Network and sharing centre.

You can go ahead and install Windows 7. I was also using PPPoE configured modem in Windows 7. It was detected automatically. The only problem is if you are connecting using USB. Do you connect using ethernet cable or USB ?

If you are in PPPoE mode and the modem is ON, Windows 7 will automatically detect the internet connection. You can browse by simple typing in your browser.

You can also use in Bridge mode. Go to network connections and create a new dialler. Enter you ID and password in dialer and click connect.

    Similar steps for XP

Control panel > network connections > create a new connection > Connect to internet > Set up my connection manually > Connect using a broadband connection which requires a user name and password.

Log into your modem, in the WAN page, select the entry with 0_35. Click " Edit ". Browse through the pages and you will find an option to switch between PPPoE and Bridge.

Are you sure that you want to move to PPPoE. Bridge mode is also good. Just create a dialer thats all.

please, mention modem make and model

For bsnl supplied modems, type 192.168.1.1 in a browser window(i.e., firefox, etc.,)
user name admin, password admin then you will be able to logon to the web management interface of you modem/router from then proceed to configure wan/internet configuraion page.
