Default 256 kbps unlimited plan Punjab Something Is WRONG Seriously.....

Dear friends please help me out....

    I have this 256 kbps unlimited plan.....charges Rs 900....Punjab.

so as per the plan my speed should be 256 kbps = 32 kBps...
which i have been comfortably getting all these months (18 months)...

i even enjoyed double speed facility earlier this month....with 56-58 kBps...

but for the past 5 days my speed has dropped to 10-12 kBps...

    1) No virus...100 % sure (have checked through TCPVIEW...no malicious program is hogging bandwidth)

    2) SPEEDTEST.NET says 0.4 mbps (i.e. double of 256 kbps)
and yes on torrents im still gettin 20-25 kBps depending on Seeds..50-60 kBps gone......but im atleast getting my usual deserved speed.....
Surfing is also fast as usual...

PROBLEM is ONLY with direct downloads....like downloading from rapidshare...
and other filehosters....or if i download some file from a particular site
i dont get more than 10-12 kBps in any case.........

    3) Have been using regular DNS settings (Not open DNS)...
so they cant be a problem....as for almost 2 years usual DNS settings were working what happened suddenly....

and this is not a one-off problem.....it has been here for 5 days atleast...
i have seen similar problems in many threads here lately....

    somthng is seriously wrong somwhere...

i am not askin for 50-60 kBps...but atleast i deserve what im paying for....

GURUs here please help this lost soul...
....im dying a slow and a painful death...

    Check your speed at
    http://speed.airtelbroadband.in

speed varies from different webservers web sites
Decrease upload speed to minimum in torrents.
Rapidshare FREE d/l always slow server..

Rapidshare and other file sharing websites give lesser speeds to its users. You may try a download from Cnet or Microsoft to know the real speed. Download a file and post the speed here.

You may also try system restore. Check whether there is any settings of firewall interrupting your download. Get a good download manager like IDM.

    Feedback.

    >Man this airtel test says 310 kbps....similar to speedtest.net results which says 0.41 mbps...
this is reflecting in torrents...just for this reply i started a torrent wid gud seeds and its givin 50 kBps....

    >downloaded IE8 from microsoft.com......speed 4-5 kBps....

    >dear frnd i dont use any downloadmanagers....
without them just 6-7 days back i was getting 50 KBps....and 30 KBps (b4 double speed gift)...
just recently i see that my download speed has reduced...

    >summary:
    1) speed test show good speed
    2) torrents run at good speed
    3) only direct downloads are affected....any host.....general websites, rapidshare, hotfile, oron, also depositfile worked best for me....always close to 30 kBps and recently close to 60 KBps but even it has betryaed me now...

    4) use only default windows firewall....no problem there...
5)double checked that no other program is hogging bandwidth...
6)no suspicious activity goin on in runtime...no rootkits....no malicious driver...
    7) registry ekdum clean...

    8) in short i use MANUAL CLEANING of viruses, rootkits and registry values...
so im sure its not a MALICIOUS-program related problem...

    WHAT WORKS FINE:
    Surfing, Torrents, Speed Tests

    WHAT IS NOT WORKING FINE:
direct downloads.....not even getting 10kBps now...

    Please gurus help this soul....
where is the problem.......have done all brainstorming....cant find the reason..

There is no need to worry. Some file servers do not give high speeds for single threaded downloading. If you want to download at your full plan speed then use a download manager. Example: "Free download manager" (you can google for this)

This will allow you to download a file at the maximum possible speed. hope this helps.

thanx for provding some insight my friend...
but i feel u havent understood my query as i intended it...

actually be it torrents or direct downloads speed wud definitely vary...

but if u read my original post clearly u will see that now a pattern has emerged...
all sites are giving me direct download speed of less than 10 kBps..
this is not a random occurence...for the past one week my speed has been limited to this level...even during this free double speed bsnl bonanza...

good seeds, download managers etc all help only if u want to boost what u have...
    i got nothn man....microsoft givin 4kBps....

    Modem UT300R2U
    Which Browser you use ?
    Download for testing
    K-Meleon. ( based on Mozilla )
    2. download tcp Optimizer
    from speedguide.net.

    3. Change DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 208.67.220.220
( if not tried already )
    4. Post ipconfig /all
    data after changes.
    feedback.

My direct DL speed has fallen to 6 kBPS,speedtest.net lists the speed as 0.50 kbps(original plan=Ul750+)

I think the bsnl guys are cutting down the speed of all my regularly visited sites(if that makes any sense)

I just opened a site I rarely visit and it loaded normally

    My DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 218.248.255.147
    218.248.255.146

    1. Do you have a firewall ? Disable it and try.

    2. Change the browser and try. Chrome, Firefox or Opera

    3. Try Tuneup Utilties. It has some internet tweaks.

    1. Keep the firewall disabled and restart the system. Check again.

    2. Did you tried TCP /IP optimizer.

    3. How much do you get on torrents ? Try a Linux DVD and check.
