    Default SEA-ME-WE 4 cable sabotage?

Hi there. First post Like many of you I am also a victim of this latest internet fiasco. While I know the title of this thread may rise eye-brows, it simply cannot be ruled out.

This is not the first time that the SEA-ME-WE 4 cable has 'snapped". Its happened before in the year 2008 in the months of jan,feb & dec which resulted in almost 70% blackouts in India. Many other countries also suffered due to this. Its interesting to note that both Iraq & Israel(both controlled by the USA of course) did not suffer from the breakdown, despite using the same cable as ours.

Think about it. Iran has carried out its nuclear program & the US feels very threatened about it. Israel has even come out in the open to say that it'll strike these nuclear facilities at its will. Who knows? This communication black out could have been a result of Iran's notoriety & USA & Israel's arrogance & again this cannot be ruled out, as its happened before in 2008 with the Iranian oil bourse.According to this sabotage theory, the damaged cables and the resulting Internet disruptions would destroy confidence in the ability of the Iranian Oil Bourse to execute trades & PUT THEM AT THE MERCY OF America.Even the International Telecommunication Union said that the damage on that occasion could have been an act of sabotage.

The SEA-ME-WE 4 cable remains the only under sea cable in the world to have suffered multiple failures in its short existence of 5 years. Bad news is that we may have to put up with such disruptions often in the future. The middle east is such a volatile region & much of it is controlled by bully America.

Its high time the Indian telecom companies involved i.e Bharti & Tata Communications lobby in for an alternative route i.e via Cape Town, South Africa.

This middle east seems to be the front for all kinds of terrorism, including sabotage of undersea cables.

Lastly why did this have to happen when BSNL doubled our speeds?

It has nothing to do with politics in the middle east.
The cables are managed by a consortium of telecom companies - bharti and tata being 2 of them.

    SEA-ME-WE 4 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In any case the worst affected region is South Asia (india/pakistan/bangladesh) and the poorer SE Asian countries (cambodia/malaysia etc).

Most other countries can afford alternative routing via the west coast.

BSNL for example is currently using a very convoluted route for traffic to the US and EU.

However BSNL uses cheapo routing and doesn't buy enough bandwidth so we are stuck with shitty ping times, packet losses and as a result a lot of websites take forever to open.

Broadband in India is perceived as a very unimportant or even irrelevant service - it's quite surprising that in a country that depends considerably on IT there is ZERO media attention on this cable issue.

Lastly why did this have to happen when BSNL doubled our speeds?
doubling speeds was a very stupid move anyway.
BSNL doesn't even have enough bandwidth for normal speeds.
