BSNL has become very slow since last week

My BSNL internet connection has become very slow since last week. It is taking at least 3 minutes to load a website.

There is under sea cable repair going on. May last till 2 nd May. Will continue to experience low speeds till then.

1GB = 1024 MB
.5GB = 512 MB
1.5 GB = 1536MB.
2Mbps speed is 256 KB/sec
b= bits B=Bytes
1MB = 1024 KB. etc.

Is may 2nd the exact date? or its just to fool around the costumers?

i had like 250 latency on it like 2 weeks ago . suddenly it went down when i asked bsnl customer care they say if you were gettin so cool speed you are lucky coz ppl dont get that much. i changed the plan from 256kbps to 512kbps same speed coming. then i read in newspaper some undersea cable fault occured . well my frnds play that game too and they got airtel. their Pings are all Ok since 2days [airtel users]. and me Bsnl user Still having that problem. i have one question.
why bsnl ppl dont care for their services?
is it coz bsnl is government company?.
i was said that it will take 30th of april for the problem to settle down
now they sayin Monday 2nd may.
is it the final date? or is it goin to take long and Ppl are just fooling their costumers around?.
when i complaint to Internet costumer care they dont even know what problem is goin on. they say its a server problem will be ok by sumtime. can take somedays. so on and on.

Every other ISP in india is experiencing heavy congestion, latency, packet loss, high pings and shitty routing/lag to servers both in the US and in the EU.

I've been browsing a lot of forums and seeing multiple complaints about this congestion issue.

The undersea cable was supposed to get repaired on May 2nd (yesterday); actually in fact it was fixed on the 30th:

The lag that you are seeing is a completely different problem - it's lag/congestion/bad routing on the savvis.net and AT&T/TATA servers in the US.

A lot of people in Australia are also experiencing this same lag - remember australia is a 1st world country, you can see a lot of such complaints and discussions from the australians here :

I have no idea when this problem will be fixed, it is indeed getting extremely frustrating; especially combined with the fact that there is no official news/response on the matter and almost zero interest from the user base (but then again remember than 99% of Indians just very casually use the internet and that too to just check emails on local servers).

From what I'm seeing personally the lag is at it's worst during the night time between 3am to about 8am (peak time in US, moderate DL in india), then again between 11am-2pm (peak usage time in India). During this time bandwidth is extremely choppy/lossy and latency fluctuates between 340-560ms. Also the transition from good latency (300-340) to shitty latency (440+) is very abrupt; as is the transition back.

Also, do you know any other regularly updated indian broadband forums with actual discussion like the aus one i linked ?

Both this forum and broadbandforum DOT in are full of :
1) OMG HIGH BILL HELP PLX
2) tech support type questions (MY INTERNET NOT WORK/URGENT HALP)
3) discussion about new plans or 3g/wireless crap
4) DATAONE SITE DOWN
5) new/speculative plans

there seems to be just very little actual discussion of the current internet status/international repair work etc.

There is no final date; it's very slowly getting slightly better but it's still unusable most of the time.

Changing ISP won't change anything.
MTNL is supposedly a good choice but it's only available in delhi/mumbai

airtel and mtnl are both having the same problem - in fact even other countries like australia are experiencing high latencies.

as i said earlier i have like 5 more friends playin wow on EU server.
most of them are airtel.
if all isp's are having same problem.
why am i gettin constant disconnects evry 5-10mins. and they dont?
Why am i getting ReD latencies and they are On green?
that game is World's No.1 mmorpg. and i am paying money to play that.
Ppl will soon Put me on their Ignore list if I constant dc while Playin coz its an multiplayer online game. all play together and if one person keeps dcing they dont allow it.
i m constantly dcing and i cant play on these situations and my frnds with airtel got their Problem solved 2days ago and i dont.

Hey dude.
I am using the same BSNL and playing WOW with 100 times DC in 2 hours.
This is rediculus and they gave 512 plan to cheat us.

INDIA IS NOT SHINGING, or IT IS GETTING FADE.
for example,
the world of war craft, it is a game played by more than 2 lacks people at a time worldwide.

we are having friends all over the world and every 2 mins it is getting disconnected means, anyone can think about INDIA and it is poor technology.

We cannot answer like this under water construction or watever. it is really pain to give such an answer like this.

ALREADY WE ARE IGNORED because of poor ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT , now it is started with BSNL. I can say not only BSNL but Indian Internet Services.

FPS games are unplayable with anything over 200ms so I gave up on that (I used to play cod4 when i was in the US).

when I login Wow latency is like 4000-5000ms
then 20 secs later its 2000
then 20 secs later 1000
It goes Lowest 500-600
then suddenly jumps again . and then Dc.
as you both play wow too.
you know what 25 man raiding is. 25 Ppl all over the world In same Raid.
Fps goes Down. and High latencies Make us Lagg and then Dc
24 other Ppl's game gets RUined By only 1 person that is us.
Then they all get frustrated , Out Image Goes down aswell they Put us On ignore List.
and then its Like OH ****. what isp I have taken.
1st of all they cant help their costumers having problem.
then they ask 'you play game day and night?' their meaning is ' stop playin game you wont have problem'

Most ppl take internet for social networking sites and porn Sites.

99% of the internet users use it for occasionally checking emails; that's it.
broadband here is some kind of sick joke, and online gaming is even worse.

anyway i usually play WoW after about 5:30am, and have downloads running between 2am-5:30am.
I occasionally listen to online radio stations during the free period as well.

The lag today was somewhat better than yesterday; latencies went up to around 500ms @ around 7-8am IST however.

Anyway, about online WoW latency/disconnects try Fasterping from curse (it's a series of registry fixes to your connection modifying tcp/ack values)

In game fps/disconects is a somewhat related problem, but you can get significant improvents with addons like smartaddonblocker (temp puts other clients on ignore to reduce network traffic)

any update on your situation ?

ping times today seem to have been better today than yesterday(I was getting a average 150-200kbps on a sherlock holmes collection download according to the utorrent graph)

Ping times were probably normal ~330ms (i checked since i woke up at around 5am); however right now after 7am ping times are 430ms+.

I wonder if airtel is experiencing similar congestion in the morning.

7:30am : youtube not opening, ping times steadily increasing to 460ms+; all US server based websites taking FOREVER to load.

Has there been any improvement in thsi speeds. My speeds went down 50% in last week of april and still are not back on track. Last I heard of the cable disruption was to be rectified on April 30th.

I always get confused with this Kbps and kbps thingy. Are you really getting 250kbps?!!! I am still stuck with 25kbps (

1 KBps = 8 Kbps

32 KBps = 256 Kbps

64 KBps = 512 Kbps

I recently took the BSNL EVDO card. I was given to believe that I could expect 500Kbps [I thought with Cap K] but my dopwnload speed is very very low in that. Its lower than my LL BB. However, I have to check it for vaiables, hence not sounding a judgement on it yet.
