Exclamation SMC ADSL modem for BSNL

    Hi guys,...

...I am planning to shift to BSNL from my lousy Asianet ISP which bills me 730rs/month for 128kbps unlimited. The actual speed no way reaches even 100kbps. ... Comming back to my problem.. I have a tata indicom adsl modem, got it from a friend, and would like to know if I can get it configuired to be used with a BSNL connection. The make of the modem in hand is
    SMC EZ Connect ADSL/USB modem - SMC7003 USB V.2

here's a link to how it looks and some specs : SMC EZ Connect SMC7003 ADSL USB Modem V.2 : Read reviews and compare prices at Ciao.co.uk

Thanks in advance guys.. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

yes , it can be used for BSNL Broadband connection .
you have to install its drivers [for USB connection] .

Just remember to use correct values for vci , vpi ,
IP address , Gateway , DNS entries etc ...

see Dataone user manual for more details : Link

Default SMC ADSL Modem for Dataone

    Thanks mmm,

ITs good enought to know that it can be configuired to be used with dataone. But the link you sent me cant be reached, i guess you reached the page after logging into the Sanchariak website? if so that might be the problem.. I did see admin mentioning about the user manual in another page with a link to rapidshare, where he'ad uplded it to, but the file there has been removed. So if there's some place else where i can get the doc. pls let me know.. thanks a million, mate..

    cheers

Unhappy SMC adsl modem fro BSNL dataone

    Dear mmm,

thanks again, but talking about installing the modem, I accidently installed it as an adsl WAN modem, though there was an option to install it as an LAN modem. So is it Ok if it is installed as a WAN modem??

^ The modem should work fine even if it was installed
as a WAN modem . However we generally suggest
to use a modem thru ethernet (LAN) port for more
stability . since this SMC7003 modem has only USB
port , we may not get good connection from it ...

    @ tanmoy
the configuration settings are same for a USB modem . We
have to select whether we need bridge mode connection
or PPPoE connection in the modem .

The main thing with the USB modem is that we need to
install the modem USB driver software into our system .
The modem will not work without the drivers installing .

If we use bridge mode in the modem then we have to use
a software dialer to connect to internet . i.e. we run a
shortcut on desktop to connect to the net .
To disconnect from internet , we have to use the icon
available at windows system tray .

If we use PPPoE mode in the modem then whenever we
switch on the modem - we will be connected to the net .
To disconnect , we have to switch off the modem .
