Thumbs down BSNL and MTNL's 2mbps speed- What a joke!

Telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran announced that mtnl and bsnl's broadband speed will be increased from 256 kbps to 2 mbps at the same price from 1 january 2007. But there is a great comedy in his annoucement as well as disappointment for internet users.Dayanidhi Maran made the people fool. MTNL and BSNL are providing 2 mbps speed only for volume based plans. It is not for unlimited and hourly plans. When a person is paying according to his download limit (i.e. according to per mb), How can he enjoy 2 mbps speed at the same price. He is paying, how much he is using. No one will be benefitted by this promotion of speed.

When telecom minister himself befooling the people, what will be the future of that country in the field of IT? He can make people befool who dont know much about broadband, but an internet user can easily understand his fraud. Mr. Dayanidhi Maran please stop doing such kind of silly announcements before the whole media.

I'm a DataOne user (Plan 500. Recently DataOne increased the bandwidth from 256kBps to 2MBps. So previously my effective download speed was 30kBps and it should be increased to 150-200kBps right now. I would like to inform you that, faster download speed is not being available at my free download hours (2am to 8am). Even i'm not getting my good old download speed at that time period mentioned above (It's just 10kBps to 15kBps, while previously it was 30kBps). I also have noticed that from 8am the speed again gets higher everyday!!!! It's very pathetic that they are demanding that they are providing upgrated connection for Plan 500 (As well as some other plans too). But honestly it'll be a cheat if the customers don't get the high speed connection at the free hours. There is no usage of 2MBps connection for me, if i'm not being able to have high download speeds at the free time period.

So 2MBps connection is the biggest joke for the users who are having plans like me !!!!!!!!

EDIT: UPLOAD speed is always stable(30-40kBps) and i've no complain regarding that

looks like its a torrent ur downloadin.. well.. u cannot reliably judge ur connection speed depending on the use of torrents.. but.. i know for sure, that my friends have been getting close to 150-200kbps download on http links.. during this 2-8 period..
it does make sense however that the bandwith would be a lot more stable after 8 since many ppl would stop using and thus, more bandwith would be available..

I agree with you. Previously I used to get download speed of 28-30 KB/Sec at all the time (24 hrs a day) but now in the morning I get 150-210 KB/Sec but in the evening it decreases to 2-8KB/Sec. And when it's time to get night unlimited, I get 6-10KB/Sec. I 've also complained regarding this. But they said tt they can't help it.

As i said before, this is the picture of my download speed at night. And believe me i do have slower speed than this too. This is not the worst. I'm also giving you speedtest reasult from BSNL site (what i've done immediately after i did speedtest from the other site). It demands i can download at 196.9 KB/sec while my downloadspeed is only 13kBps !!!!! If this thing continues i'll change my ISP

Okay i will, when i tried to send them a complain through e-mail, it said "Try Later". Gotta call their Customer Care, also i know it well how they'll gonna deal with me. Customer Support Executives have nothing to do to resolve this issue. Superfast connection at daytime (non free hours) and dial up speed at night (free hours), thats the upgraded "DataOne" service for you my friend!!!!!

    Default Pathetic Download speed

I did a blunder when i moved from Reliance Broadband to BSNL Broadband...During Night time unlimited, the downloan speed is around 3-8 KBPS, so I'm gettin around 24-64 kbps speed...when I complained, I was told that BSNL server is OK...it might be the fault of other ones....well, according to the technicians of BSNL, all other servers has issues (except BSNL ), including Microsoft since I'm getting around the same download speed from any & every website....HA! HA!
