    Hey,

Their is no such way to find whether free usage has started or not, you have to restart your modem when your free usage.

Like if your free usage starts at 2, restart modem 2-3 times at between 2:15 to 2:30 and then start the download.

There is no way to find out the starting of free usage time.

    • Synchronise your system clock to IST (Indian Standard Time) using Windows inbuilt program or a 3rd party software.
    • Restart modem/connection atleast 10 after 2 AM and disconnect atleast 10 minutes before 8 AM.
    • Use an automatic shutdown software/script as a back up, just in case you forget disconnect the connection.
    That's all you can do.

    Golden RULE:
Switch off Modem at about 0155 AM
Switch on modem again at 0205 AM
    Switch off modem at 0755AM
Manually or through schedulers. or scripts.
Test auto schedulers in Day time.
Keeping only the system in standby/hebernate etc won't help.
    Wait: searching ......

Synchronize your computer time with BSNL server time by logging into data.basnl.in. You will see the login time at the top left hand side corner of the webpage. Better yet, set your computer time 2 minutes faster than the BSNL server time.

Next follow essbebe's advice on bandwidth meter.

One of my friends told me that BSNL has improved its System for Night Unlimited. Perhaps it's not required to reboot the modem around 2 AM. The Usage portal shows that at 2 AM, the cycle again starts even if the modem was connected before that. This effectively displays that after 2 AM, there is zero data transfer.

    @itsmemmad
Agree. But seems more effective to change over at 0800 AM to stop free "bonus' d/l
    between 0755- say 0825 AM
still overlapping entries are shown. also in selfcare page for some users free usage is not shown as 0.

Make sure that the start and end times fall in the 2-8 slot. To confirm, switch off and On the modem a little after 2.00 am and a little before 8.00 am.

It is better to continue with the automated/manual modem stops and starts at the specified times. Here is an article on the same on how to do this automatically:

Automatic rebooting of router at 2 AM and 8 AM

I would like to contradict my last post in this thread. I confirm that BSNL is not rebooting their servers on a daily basis at 2 AM. However, it appears that they are testing it.

Hence, please use any of the modem reboot methods suggested in the forum. One of them is : (Night Downloader- Best BSNL Night Download Manager)

Modem reboot is not required atleast for my location. Attaching screenshots of automatic billing start/stop during NUL for 2 random days. After 2 AM Chargeable units is ZERO.
