    Smile WI-FI best configuration

    Hi All,

I had been reading all the threads in this forum for a best approach to set up my home wifi and I want your help further in deciding to go for the best approach...I am going for the Home 650 BSNL broadplan...

    1) Is it better to go a for all in one type - 2 modem which BSNL offers with it's connection ? Or shall I only take the ASDL modem from them and get the best wi fi router from the market and install my wifi ...I heard that the type 2 modem supplied by BSNL are not so condusive if the range increases...compared to similar routers of DLINK,Buffalo available in the market.

    2) I had planned to go for Buffalo Wireless-G Broadband Router & Access Point WCR-G54 in case BSNL type 2 modem is not encouraged above. I would like to know if this router is a good fit to ASDL modems supplied with BSNL broadband.

    Please let me know ...

    Regards
    Prasanna Kumar

It depends. If you are thinking cost wise, BSNL has the cheapest modem cum router available in the market. If you are concerned about the range, check with any friend of yours to know the range of wifi modem.

Buffalo routers give good range, but is costly when compared to BSNL's Rs. 1,600 + tax or Rs. 80 per month rent. I too have a wifi set up. I am using a router from BSNL. It seems good.

    Hi..

    Thanks for your reply...

Right now cost is not a concern as I am planning to have a trouble free wifi which is stable enough for medium ranges (around 100 ft ) ...I see that there could be several challenges in installing routers procured from the market to work with BSNL modems..is it true ..As I said i want to go for buffalo router which is rated at Rs 1299 at ebay...can I go for it..

Also is there any website where I get info about installing buffalo routers with ASDL modems as I am new into this networking arena...

    Regards

Normally, these routers come with a wizard which will help you set up the connection. It is just easy to configure them using the wizard. If you buy a Buffalo router, BSNL won't support it. But you can get help from this forum.

    Hi!!

If u get a wifi router from BSNL then u will get support but if u get Buffalo then BSNL won't give u support but here u will!!

BSNL has some good wifi modems!!I have a UTStarcom WA3002G4 and its works perfect!!Wifi is just great!!I can get range in any part of our house!!

Try to get from BSNL as they can change the modem if its faulty!!And monthly charges are Rs80/- and if u want to own the modem then Rs1600/-.

Get monthly modem for Rs80/-!!Great deal and great range too!!

    Good luck!

WIFI range is based on "LINE of Sight"
and your direct range of 100 feet can meet obstructions ( concrete wall/steel used etc) as well as height involved. and position of the WIFI antenna either vertical or Horizontal to ground.
    For illustration:

Better try with BSNL wifi Modem 3 in 1 on rental basis. The go for an additional Buffalo WI fi router with Dual antenna N type.
