    Question Link failure!

I am using BSNL broadband since last 4 yrs. Problem is that I am not getting the link for most of the day. For 1-2 hrs. only during the day that I am able to get the link. Strange thing is that whenever there is load shedding and the invertor starts functioning, the link comes back easily and am able to connect to the internet.
I have made the complaints numerous times since last 2 weeks but to no avail.
Further I not able to view modem status as the command prompt is not coming on typing 'ipconfig' in the run bar.
    what shall I do?

To get command prompt, you need to type cmd, not ipconfig.

    1. Mention your modem - model and make.

    2. Check your splitter. Bypass it and try.

    3. Post your SNR and attenuation values.

    Also try in RUN
    type C:/windows/system32/cmd.exe

    Does the tubelights also work?

Seems you have Low Voltage on mains.
    Change Phase if option available.

@dilip.........I saw in someones post that to know SNR and attenuation values one needs to type ipconfig in RUN but when i am doing so the the DOS prompt just appears and goes away or it just blinks for once and thats why i am unable to check SNR and attenuation values.
model of the modem is : smartax MT882 (sterlite)
I have checked the splitter. every connection is in proper place. I dont know what do u mean by saying 'bypass it'.

@essbebe........every other point is working as usual.........voltage is ok........and there is no option of changing the phase.

To get ipconfig values, the procedure is

Start > run > cmd >ipconfig/all. You might have missed the cmd part.

Bypass means connect the phone line directly to your modem and check.

Type 192.168.1.1 in your browser, enter ID and password as admin.

Browse through the pages. You will find the values of SNR and attenuation. Post the screen shot.

@ dilip.......I entered that number 192............. but the page which opened thereafter didnt contain any option of entering ID and password...........few links were there which seemed to me as irrelevant and a message was displaying there "The IP address 192.168.1.1 is the default for Linksys brand home broadband routers. 192.168.1.1 is a private IP address not routable on the Internet."
I connected the modem directly with the phone line, nothing happened.
I did that cmd/ipconfig thing, lots of info came like physical address, default gateway, DNS servers, Net BIOS over Tcoip(disabled) etc but no SNR/attenuation values.
Further the situation here has improved a bit i.e I am getting the link for around 3-4 hrs. in a day but not at any fixed time. Its strange but it is. So i am managing my work withing those 3-4 hrs. I dont want to further invest my time in correcting it.
Thanks to u both for the help.

ipconfig/all won't give you SNR and attenuation values. Refer this thread and change the values according to it.

http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...nectivity.html (How to repair - Limited or No connectivity)

Click this link http://192.168.1.1/. You will get an option to enter ID and password. Post the ending page screen shot. Hope you know how to post a screen shot. Upload it at tinypic and post the forum link here.
