    USB 2.0 interfaces can operate at up to 400 Mbps. A fixed amount of USB bandwidth is shared between all devices that are plugged in to your computer. USB ports can be used to connect your computer to a wide variety of devices, including scanners, printers, and many, many other devices. This makes USB ports a versatile and valuable resource for your PC.
    An Ethernet interface, however, is intended for network traffic only. It connects directly to the computer's bus so that high-speed transfers occur with the lowest possible CPU overhead. Ethernet interfaces are included with most modern motherboards.Ethernet interfaces can typically connect at 10 Mbps or 100 Mbpset. Newer Ethernet interfaces connect at 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps (Gigabit Ethernet).
    In regards to speed, your cable modem will typically operate at a much lower speed(perhaps not more than 2Mbps). This speed can be handled easily by the slowest USB or Ethernet connection. Most cable modems can connect with USB 2.0 (up to 400 Mbps) or Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps), but since the cable modem will transmit only so fast, either connection will work find.

    We have many members using USB port here. Nobody reported any difference in speed. You should get the same speed in both methods.

    @abhishe11sharma
    Perhaps, you wanted to know which is better ?
    ADSL via Landline/ or via WIFI using USB modem/Datacard /Wimax etc
    if not
    data transfer is 11 Mbps in USB 1.0 and 100 Mbps in ethernet connection and usually 56 Mbps ( 108 Mbps also available ) in WIFI connection.
    As the speeds of most affordable BB connection are less than 2 Mbps mostly, may not make much difference. in surfing/ download/s

    As everyone has said, there will be no difference in speed because even USB 1.1 operates at 11 mbps which is way faster than the typical fast BB connection (2 mbps).

    But ethernet is better because ethernet drivers are inbuilt in the operating system (Windows/Mac-OS/Linux, etc.). Hence no extra drivers are required. For instance, your old modem may have USB drivers for XP but not for Windows 7.
