Exclamation Nokia Siemens 1600 - Please help !

    Dear Friends,

My PC does not have LAN card. I used to surf through Type 1 modem. Recently i applied for Type 2 modem as there was a fault with Type 1 modem. While finding out the problem he connected Type 2 modem with my PC to check issue with ADSL Link.

After a few days an another Service engineer came with Nokia Siemens 1600 router. He said that my PC doesn't have LAN Card that's why he cannot connect it with PC.

Please tell me if he is right. Is LAN Card required ? If not then how it should be connected ?

Please treat this as an urgent issue. Thanks.

I think you used to connect using USB port while using the Type 1 modem. You can use USB modem if drivers are available for Type 2 modem. Check whether the type two modem has USB drivers. But it is always better to connect using ethernet port.

You can download USb drivers for type 2 adslmodem/lanport/wifi router. (Mention model/make/number ) IF Nokia Siemens Networks 1600 check whether available in Bsnl links. TRY Type B sl2 _141)
( also mention details of old Type I modem used )
can buy a PCI ethernet card or WIrelessLan card for your desktop.
    .
See link No 8. in WA3002_g4 quick reference link given below.

Thanks for reply. Yes you are right. I had Sterlite Type 1 modem which was connected with USB. My Broadband connection is around 4 years old.

If USB Drivers are available then can I connect the hardware like Type 1 modem with my pc ?

Yes. If you have USB drivers, you can use them to connect using USB port. But I am not sure if they are available for Windows 7. Please check the links in the above post.

You can download the USB drivers . save it to C:/My Documents/type B drivers.
    Then restart the system .
connect USB cable from router to system.
Let windows detect NEW hardware and ask for drivers.
    Try from above location.
if accepted you can use the USB port.

or you may get error message and or computer will show "Blue Screen of death "!
    feedback.

Thanks. My PC has XP while laptop has 7. I would do as you guys suggested. Actually i am in Mumbai and my home is at Jaipur. It all happened at the time when i am far from my home. I was told that there is no CD and manual in Box. Kindly tell me if Nokia Siemens 1600 comes with these two. Thanks for the support.

A cheap LAN card is as low as Rs. 450/-. If you are not going to upgrade the PC soon then my suggestion would be to buy it.

Get rid of the "USB driver not available" problem forever.
