    Default New Connection

    Hi,
I am planning to change to Bsnl , i am in chennai. I use for 2 hours a day and not so heavy downloading(may be 500 2.5gb will be good i think). Which plan suits me and what are the initial charges ? Is it possible that i can buy the modem or it is complusory that i should use it on rental basis , What are the prices both in rent and purchase , which is the best modem that i can use for bsnl connection? What are the things that are added if i take 500rs plan (say service tax ,modem rental ) how much is those charges?

You may try Home 500, 500 C or 500 C +. These are high speed limited plans. You get 2 -8 am free download which can be automated using various tools. But if you are more into browsing, you may choose UL which gives 512 Kbps unlimited without FUP.

You can buy a modem if you want. For a wifi modem, it cost RS. 1600 + tax or Rs. 80 per month rent. You can get a non wifi modem for Rs. 1000 outright payment or Rs. 50 per month rent.

You cannot choose the modem. They supply the modem which is in stock. Most BSNL modems are good in quality. I am still using my 1.5 years old modem. Nokia Siemens C 2110.

    For other charges, please refer

I you buy the modem, you don't need to pay the rent.
    500(Plan charge)+31(service tax)+1000/1600+500(security deposit) = Rs. 2031/2631+Installation charges(Rs. 250)

As a new customer, it will be my advise to go for the unlimited usage plan (UL 750+). The plan is now more attractive because it provides 512 kbps (64 KB/s) speed.

Rs.1000/- for type I modem or Rs.1600/- for type II modem you can opt as per needs. i.e. if you have or will use a laptop go for type II modem if not go for type I modem. you have to pay additional 4% as vat on modem cost in either case.

You can choose Home 500 plans. But it comes with a maximum of 2.5 GB. If you feel it is too low, try UL 750 or UL 750 Combo. It gives you 512 Kbps unlimited for Rs. 750 per month. No FUP, no strings. Y
